[ /list][ b]Reflection**
[ *] Strengths: Well rounded. Took demanding course load while working and plaiying travel and school sports. Active in my school community. I want to major in IR, have a passion for politics and desire to do community service
[ *] Weaknesses: Test scores are good but not amazing. Tufts seemed to look at the whole application.
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Really think it comes down to fit. From the first time on their website to visit to local session to interview, it just seemed like a fit. Apparently they thought so too.
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: ACCEPTED: Tulane ($30K scholarship), UNC (IS); DEFERRED at UVA, BC, University of Chicago and Georgetown. Had applications also out to GW, Johns Hopkins, William & Mary, and Wellesley.
[ *] If rejected, where are you looking now?

[ /list][ b]General Comments: ** For students seeing this, fit really matters and things work out as they should. Be patient with the process. I know it’s hard, but everything works out like it should if you trust in the process and listen to your heart. My daughter loved Tufts from the first time she saw it, but was afraid she wouldn’t get in. She was torn between it and Georgetown and U of Chicago, both of which she applied to EA. She expected to be deferred at both as well as at Tufts and planned to be waiting it out until April. Doing EA for them first gave her the chance to also do EDII at Tufts. Getting deferred four times was disheartening, but now, we are done and withdrawing all applications. So many of you are brilliant and will be successful where ever you go. Find your fit!

Other:

Applied for Financial Aid?: no
Intended Major: International relations
State (if domestic applicant): west coast
Country (if international applicant):
School Type:
Ethnicity: white
Gender: f
Income Bracket: high
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none

Reflection:

Strengths: well-rounded EC’s, good essays, good grades & SAT scores, did Tufts Summit IR program
Weaknesses: no hooks, white girl @ private school
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I think I had a pretty well-rounded, strong application. I put tons of time into my supplements, interviewed and went to admissions events, and had good EC’s and good scores.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Deferred ED from Brown, accepted EA to University of San Francisco
General Comments: It all worked out in the end!!! In hindsight, I wish I hadn’t spent so much time stressing/prepping over test scores - it was definitely time that could have been better spent doing something else that I actually enjoyed. I was deferred from an Ivy but decided not to wait around until April as I also loved Tufts. Now I couldn’t be happier going somewhere that’s not preceded by its reputation as part of a special athletic conference, in an awesome city, has one of the best IR programs, and a great student body. Go Jumbos!!!

Country (if international applicant):

[ /list][ b]Reflection**
[ *] Strengths: reading and math score, essays
[ *] Weaknesses: slight downward trend on my grades
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I guess my application is well-rounded enough, especially with decent SAT scores and essays.
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Deferred from Brown ED, deferred UVa and UMichigan, accepted UNC Chapel Hill OOS.
[ *] If rejected, where are you looking now?

[ /list][ b]General Comments: ** I was struggling for quite a while on whether I should apply ED II or not, since it would boost my chances but eliminate any further possibilities of getting into other schools that I consider “more prestigious” than Tufts. I was a bit “cocky” thinking that I shouldn’t apply binding ED II because I thought I deserved an ivy level school for all the efforts I put into the entire process. Then I realized I probably wasn’t good enough for that level of schools and went with the least risky way possible by applying ED II in order to avoid ending up in a safety school. I guess I made the right choice, because now I think Tufts is as good as a school like Cornell, only less prestigious. Now I need to decline the offer from UNC and withdraw all the other applications I’ve sent out (I applied to a LOT of schools).
