Tufts Prestigious? IR?

I've visited Tufts and fallen in love with it, and i'm currently deciding btw them and W&M. I know they're good in IR, but are they (and I don't want any of the USNews rubbish) considered to be one of the top schools in the US? Thanks -

bump. (10char.)

Considered a top school by whom? Tufts students and alumni will surely consider it a top school. The ivory tower academics might consider it a top school for certain programs. The proverbial "man on the street" (ie 90% of the earth's population) who doesn't live in New England will probably never have heard of Tufts as it is a small school and doesn't have any big time sports. And therefore they wouldn't consider it a top school by any strech. Who really cares, though? If you like it, go there.

Tufts has a really good rep here in the Northeast. I personally didn't like it when I visited, but a lot of my friends really liked it. It definetly is a top notch school (but then again what isn't these days?)

which school do you see your self at and being a part of for the next 4 years.
Is money going to be an issue in your decision?

are you turning down a free ride to take on massive debt?

Do you plan to attend Grad school?

Regardless of what anyone thinks, what is the best place for you? that is the school where you need to be.

If you plan to study IR Tufts has a top notch program.

If you plan on pursuing a masters, according to foreignpolicy.com

Their Master's program in IR is ranked # 4 behind JHU, Georgetown, and Harvard

sorry, I do not know anything about william and Mary

In the northeast, Tufts is considered one of the most prestigious schools, about comparable to Brown and Cornell. it is extremely difficult to get into and sends loads of students each year to the top grad programs.

I live in Connecticut, and here Tufts is definitely not comparable to Brown or Cornell. For kids from my school, it's really not that difficult to get in there.

Thanks for your replies - I actually do live in New England.

alwayfaithful - I've always heard that it is actually quite comparable to Brown & Cornell, regardless of whether Tufts accepts a few more students than the other two (& we're talking about just a few more students, not boatloads more). If you go to a private/feeder school, than it might make it easier for any of the top schools.

Anyway, thanks again. :)

Tufts has a great rep here in the NE that is only beaten by the Ivies...Tufts is VERY well respected for IR.
