What is the average SAT score of students who get accepted to Tufts? I checked their website and remember it being in the 2200's but was wondering if you knew anyone who got accepted with a not-so-fabulous SAT score but good GPA, extracurricular, essay, etc..

I'm applying there but I'm afraid that my SAT is not very good....

It depends on what your SAT score is (2000 is different from 1800) and what your "good GPA, extracurricular, essays" are. Just think of the definition of "average;" of course there are people there with lower scores.

I mean I read in a Lee Coffin blog on his website that some students SAT scores hover over a thousand. But I applied with a "not so fabulous" SAT score -- and I did Early Decision, and I think I presented a great application in every other respect, a great interview, essays, GPA, hard classes, community service -- so I will let you know how it works out for me.

No schools average at 2200 except HYPSMC.
At 2200, you're more than likely to get Tufts Syndrome.

Tufts definitely does not have "Tufts Syndrome". And if it did, you would need higher than a 2200 for it to affect you; I scored 2300 and got in (although I applied ED, which I guess would nullify the mythical syndrome).

middsmith on 12-07-2008: Why would any school want to go for a high yield by rejecting students with the best credentials? By the way, if Tufts decided to wait-list or reject all 2200+ applicants, as you imply, then their average could never be 2200...it would plummet to perhaps 2000 or high teens. It is mathematically impossible to reject all points above the mean and end up at the mean unless all points are the mean. In fact, if my sister gets into Tufts, I suspect they will teach her stuff like that, even though she is almost a 2300. ;-)

on the tufts site the profile for their class of 2012 has an average of 1440/1600, and about 2150/2400. i applied ed with a 1330/1600 but very good gpa and rank with hard classes, so idk..
If you get above a 2200 my impression is that the tufts syndrome is only likely to happen if youve shown little to no interest in the school. if youve at least visited or had an alumni interview that shows youre not just applying to see if you get in or not but that you actually want to go there

We're all talking about numbers again and I am sure that both you guys and me hope that Tufts isn't just that. The same that goes for a person with an 1800 would apply to a 2200. If everything else is there then you'll be accepted, but if you're not an 'active citizen' or do absolutely nothing, and all your focus is academic with your 4.0/4.0 and your 2360, then what does that mean? It means nothing to Tufts, at least I would hope it means nothing to Tufts.

If you want to see how arbitrary numbers can be... check out Dartmouth's ed thread. Based on numbers and even EC's... College admissions would appear to be a crap shoot. :)
