*Tufts VS. Emory*

ok so basically if you've read any of my previous posts you know im slightly obsessed with emory... (i'm a junior now).

i've done a ton of research on emory, and i know i'd be happy at emory, and i love love love it for a million reasons, but one big one is that i'm kind of set on going to school in the south, and emory was my favorite/the one that fit me the best of the ones i looked at there. so basically i did a lot of research on SOUTHERN schools, because i was just so sure i ddint want to stay in the north.

the thing is, i was a little bit hasty in that decision (keeping in mind that i didnt set it in stone, but just in my own head), because i just was so sure i wanted to go south. a few of the reasons for that:
*the weather (people say this is not a good reason, but heres my reasoning: i am legitimately much happier when its sunny and warm, cold cloudy dismal weather makes me depressed, and so i figure if i have the option of living somewhere warm happy and sunny, why not?)
*i'm from massachusetts. i want to experience life in a different part of the country, so i dont feel like my entire existance is contained within a region of the country. i want to spread out!
*i want to go my own way (but not across the country). i love my family and i do like boston (aside from the weather), but i dont want to be really close to home, and i dont want to go to a school where like 10 people from my highschool will be going. i want to start fresh!
*i love the laidback and friendly nature of the south.
*there are more reasons too but these are the main ones

now heres the dilemma: today i visited tufts (in medford just outside of boston and like 20-30 minutes from where i live), and i loved it. right now its about equal with emory, except there are a few things i like better about it. however, i'm really not a fan of the location. not that boston isnt an awesome city but i just dont want to be that close to home...and that cold...anymore. i wish i could just pick it up and move it to the south...

anyone have a similar experience? which did you choose? any suggestions?
also any academic comparisons? i think tufts may be harder to get into but i'm not sure.

~note: i would just apply to both and see where i get in but the thing is that i want to do early decision, because its a major advantage at emory. at this point i'm still planning on doing it, but i'm a little less positive about my decision.

(sorry for the insanely long post...)

You still have plenty of time to decide whether or not to apply ED. Give it time - you might change your mind over the next few months, especially as you see other schools.

(By October,i f you aren't REALLY sure that one school is your clear # 1 choice, you probably shouldn't apply ED ...)

thanks jrpar

by the way i just read over my post and realized that i do sound a little bit psycho, so just to make it clear, i'm totally aware that its not a big issue at this point and that i have plenty of time to decide.... but i dont really feel like doing my math homework right now and i would just like to hear some opinions for fun and for information. after all, collegeconfidential is all about the overinformed and way-too-obsessed people :)

No I didn't think you were psycho :)

I bet there are some other threads on CC debating Tufts and Emory - I think it is pretty common that a kid would have both these schools on their list. You should probably do a search on the CC archive.

Academically they are both great schools. I think they each have particular strengths academically. Tufts might have a bit more of a campus feel to it. So what were the "few things" that you liked better about Tufts? Do you know what you want to major in?

One thing I would definitely recommend: before you apply ED, spend a night at both these schools in the fall (if these schools are still your top 2 choices). My son did this last fall and it really helped him confirm that his ED school was his #1 choice.
