Just got in off the waitlist...which i thought would be a blessing. But after "psyching" myself up for Emory over the past few weeks and sending in my deposit, I'm lost. Opinions? Oh and I'm undecided, but leaning towards business. Oh, and I have to know by tomorrow.

That's a tough decision. Both are great schools, so it really comes down to location and people. I've always gotten the impression that Emory students are a bit more pretentious, but again, that cannot be avoided at any elite institution. So, Boston or Atlanta, what's your choice really...

Emory definitely has a stronger business program in comparison to Tufts, it was actually ranked in the top 5 for an undergraduate business program in the nation rated by Businessweek. Hm, if I were you I would choose Emory if you are leaning toward business, and also I have seen that Emory is continually increasing funds and seeing that finances are not a problem, while many of my friends who are students at Tufts feel the financial status of Tufts is dwindling, which is not a good sign. I guess I also liked the campus of Emory U more as well, it was gorgeous. Again as the above poster stated, it's a tough decision and both schools are academically reputated, in the end it's what school you feel will help you succeed more and feel more comfortable.

^ How is the financial status of Tufts dwindling when they have gotten $14 million in the last 6 months in donation and that was from 2 people..... :|

well the point is that Tufts HAS NO BUSINESS PROGRAM. If you're thinking about business, better to go to Emory. But if you feel like it's just a throwaway word you're using and you may very well end up studying something else, you should strongly consider the other pro's and con's between Tufts and Emory, which, like Duffman said, probably come down to location, campus and people.

^ Yeah, I just can't see someone applying to a school without the program they want... :|

Several students who attend Tufts have told me that it has an unfortunate habit of decreasing financial aid after the first year, and furthermore, Tufts endownment is low compared to many of the other top 30 schools. Tufts has also struggled in the these past two years to seriously change their financial woos, which I find as a strong point, however it still elicits that there are problems. http://tuftsdaily.lunarpages.com/articleDisplay.jsp?a_id=1585
If you check out the dorms, buildings, and sports facilities, there are many things that need to be renovated, however financing issues have left Tufts with little change. In addition, Tufts is still one university out of the top 30 that is unable to provide need-blind financial aid to accepted students, which is another financial downfall. Trust me, I'm not here to bash Tufts (I might be attending in the Class of 2010), however I am just stating that the difference in financial status and the business reputation in comparison to Emory is in my opinion clearly evident.

Well, despite their not being need-blind, they are giving me 42k in grants...and that article "is" over three years old. As for it being low compared to other top 30 schools, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Tufts and Carnegie Mellon all have roughly the same endowment, and they all do pretty well for themselves...

I did not say all of the other top 30 schools, I said many of them..and furthermore this thread was meant to show comparisons more shifted toward emory and tufts, and the following shows the latests endowment figures:
http://insidehighered.com/news/2006/01/23/nacubo
Emory has stayed in the top 10 for the past 4 years, while Tufts has yet to reach the top 50 in that time span.

i thought they were going to be need-blind as of next semester?

and dude, this stuff about the endowment is ridiculous. when it comes down to it, the things that I have noticed that are lacking on campus have all been remedied all year and will be here next semester: more housing (Sophia Gordon), awful music department (brand new AMAZING music department complex), no parking (new parking lot and tennis courts on top) and no wireless (wireless campus completely ready next semester; already the academic quad and president's lawn had wireless as of May 1st.) Everything we needed, we got.

^ Is there really going to be all wireless by the time us pre-frosh get there in Sept.?
