Our bill for our returning sophomore shows the amount due, in two weeks, but does not list her scholarship. Last year I remember not paying the amount on the bill, but I figured that would be fixed this year.
I called but they are closed on Fridays.
Can anyone tell my why our bill doesn't list her scholarship?

I have a son the same age. We haven’t received a bill yet, but online he can see his unbilled balance for the fall which does not include his scholarship. I remember last year receiving a bill without the scholarship and being told that it doesn’t reflect the scholarship until later (I thought August or early September is when the scholarship was reflected). It would be nice to get some kind of confirmation even if it’s just online to the student that the scholarship is renewed at the same time that the bills go out. I guess the only way to be sure is to call, but it may require the student calling.

It seems to depend where you’re looking. On my My.Fordham, none of the “My Account” channel links shows the scholarship–unless you go through “Statement and Payment” and click the “View Statement” link after selecting the most recent date in the adjacent drop-down menu (should be July 5). That’ll open a one-page PDF that correctly shows the remaining balance.

If you just want to see the finaid award to get a ballpark bill estimate, you can also go to “Click Here to Login” in the “Financial Aid” channel. Then the “Accept Awards” tab will show you what aid will be taken off the bill.

Hopefully your bill is easy and your EFC is light! d:

Scholarship funds are disbursed much later, and that is the reason. Simply take the scholarship from last year and deduct and configure your estimate of what is owed…be conservative…as overpayments sometimes are slow to be refunded back to you or applied to next semester.

Some universities increase scholarship funds as tuition increases. I don’t think Fordham does this…arrrgh. (certainly not for room/board which is not covered by academic scholarships!) But if you have different information, I am all ears.

Isn’t that weird that they don’t just tell you what you owe?
I copied anglegrinderman’s info into an email and hopefully that will work for DD.

We just feel so in the dark about our loans this year. No paperwork, no info.

I did call yesterday, just fyi, they are closed every Friday for the rest of the summer…

No awards listed in Financial Aid page of my.fordham for us either and no awards tab. Anyone get theirs yet

My awards tab has been on the financial aid site since early May. You should call them on Monday and get it squared away. My tuition balance needs to be paid by July 10 (tues)

I had a confusing conversation with Financial Aid about ten days ago because my daughter’s Stafford Loan was not reflected on her online or paper statement (we did receive a paper tuition bill last month.) The person I spoke to directed me to several places on the my.fordham student account page and then finally conceded that it had not been updated.

Meanwhile, I don’t know about you guys, but my daughter’s New Student tab says her tuition is due by July 10-- she also received several emails to that effect.

I sent a check on June 29, and the check has cleared. But, her tab has still not been updated and her tuition shows as unpaid. I guess I’ll call them on Monday, but I have no idea what to make of it.

It sounds as if some students’ tuitions are due earlier than others. This is my 4th kid to go to college and I have never seen a bill come due so early in the summer.

We got a tuition bill and it subtracted her scholarship and her student loans and gave an amount due. Have you filled out the MPN and loan counseling? The loans wont show up until you do that. Ours was also due the 10th, which is much earlier that other schools. We sent the check to the po box address on the bill and it shows on her account in about a week.

Ours is due July 25th.

Blueshirt are you an incoming Freshman or a returning student?

Incoming freshman. Amount on the student account statement tab was wrong, so I called the Bursar and they gave me the correct amount which was the same as what I was expecting to pay.

a couple of points:

one, they ask for tuition early but frankly they are more flexible…the real final final is that you can’t move in and start classes if it isnt paid. They wont ding you if you are a week or so late…or even into August. Just get it paid as best you can as soon as you can. That was our experience. And communicate with them what you are doing.

Further, returning students are handled a bit differently. Every year we got the same confusing scenario…bills sent out before scholarships are reflected and panic sets in wondering if the financial aid, grants etc were somehow forgotten or taken away. Not the case.

What is the case, I believe, is that the amounts dont change even if tuition goes up. And of course you file fafsa yearly and if you have significant improvement in your financial status they can adjust your financial aid (grants and loans) down.

Some schools are not good at this and Fordham is one of them. NYU is worse from what I hear. It is what it is. But do your best, relax, enjoy the summer and good luck to incoming students.

Thanks Sovereign. I’m not really worried. I know she still has her scholarship. My husband does remember enclosing a note last year with the payment, saying something like “I know this isn’t the amount reflected on the bill, but this is the amt we were told to pay by so and so in the fin. aid office”… just to cover his butt.

It’s just weird that the bill says that this reflects anticipated aid, when actually, it doesn’t…

Finally sat down and called the Fin. Aid office, and they said that DD’s W-2 doesn’t match her taxes. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out what the woman was telling me.

So now we have to see what DD left off. She has a job at home and a job at school so she must have left one off, or they lost it.

I did tell her, very nicely, that I would have appreciated a letter letting me know that there is a problem.
