Does any current student know when Palmetto Fellow Scholarships will be credited to the students' accounts? My son's Fall bill is now on-line, but the scholarship is still pending. Do I pay the full Fall bill and wait for the $5000 refund or do I subtract the $5000 out before I pay the bill? Thanks!

Wondering the same thing here about the Palmetto Fellows as well as Dean’s scholarship and federal loan!

So you haven’t had the choice to accept or decline you student awards yet? All my Ds has shown up including dept scholarship (we had to call about) and palmetto fellows, but she is returning student. I would definitely call since I think this should all be live on SSC at this point. Southmom, I would wait to pay until money shows up - you still have time to call and check. A lot of computer updating happens over weekend so I would look tomorrow and then call Financial Aid if still not there.

Although I’m sure you’re looking in correct place, there is a short how-to on the financial aid page about what to do with aid (terms and conditions, state certification) before you are shown option to accept or decline. Check all tabs on financial aid page to be sure you don’t have to finish one of these forms before it’s final. I won’t hurt to double check that to see if you are missing something.

DD has the McKissick, and her award page shows it has been accepted for the year, but it has not showed up on the bill yet.

Also, she is taking 18 credits this semester. They billed her an extra $416 ($208 x 2 hours for OOS), and then gave her a credit because the McKissick gives her in-state tuition.

Rather than a credit of $256, which is the difference between IS ($80 per hour x 2) and OOS, they gave her a credit of $257.92 .

It’s saving me an extra $1.92, so I won’t complain, but it seems kind of random.

Thanks all! My son had just overlooked the tab to accept/decline his awards. He’s now done that so hopefully the page will update tonight and the Palmetto will show tomorrow. He’s a transfer student (just beginning his sophomore year in engineering here at USC) so all this was new to us.

My daughters Cooper scholarship is also not on the bill. It had the adjustment for in state tuition but not the additional 4k and it does show accepted on the financial aid page.

She also is taking one extra credit (17) and her credit is .96 more than if should be!

I don’t think scholarships show up on bill itself but this is new system. I printed off our fall bill to look at and all I see are expenses plus a credit for housing down payment (so maybe that’s why tuition waiver shows up here). On financial aid page I can see what awards D has accepted. If I go to pay now page it shows bill and subtracts out scholarship to give a total owed so that may be the first time you see 2 parts together. Remember this is all a new system this year.

We haven’t hit the pay now yet so can’t swear to how it works. One note, on old system once you paid the bill it went away and you couldn’t see the bill. Since we like to have for taxes we now print off the scholarship page and bill page before we do anything. Then we print off paid receipt. Now it looks like new system will let you look at past stuff going forward, but just in case, I’m still printing if off before hand.

I think I had this similar problem. I had to check the email that I used when I was applying for the Palmetto Fellows scholarship and there is a designation form that you have to fill out in order for those funds to be released for the financial aid office to disburse those funds to you.

You submit the form to the SC Commission on higher education (there is an address, #, and everything at the bottom of the form)

My son has it showing on his bill. Did you accept it on the financial aid page? We also had to complete a form from the state that designates your scholarship is going to USC.

Yes, it is now showing up and we’ve actually already paid the bill.

I filled out that form a while ago, and accepted the scholarship money, but it’s showing that I have a hold on my scholarship money. The Dean’s scholarship went through fine and on Facebook other people have stated that they had the same problem, does anyone know how to resolve it?

We are now showing a hold on D’s scholarship money too, where it wasn’t showing that a few days ago. This seems to have happened after her departmental scholarship went through. If anyone gets any answers as to what is going on with this system, please let us know!

^What type of hold is it? I’d call the financial aid office.

Once my departmental scholarship pushed through, I had an over-award hold placed on my account. I had to call the financial aid office and deal with it. (I was also on hold for 15 minutes before talking to a single soul after getting the busy signal 5 times.)

As this is a new system, can anyone tell me exactly what steps they went through when paying? I should have enough financial aid to cover my whole bill, but when I go to the system, it makes me enter a form of payment BEFORE it shows my financial aid. That’s really scary considering that I don’t have $5500 in any of my accounts to cover it if my financial aid doesn’t work through the system.

When I log on (I had DD make me an authorized person) the first payment screen shows Balance, Estimated Financial Aid, and Balance Including Estimated Aid.

In DD’s account, if you click on Pay Now on the Self Service Carolina page, it takes you to the payment site, and the My Accounts tab shows the same three items.

Neither place asked me for a form of payment before showing me the three items. If you click the “View Account Activity” button, it shows DD’s scholarship. You can walk pretty far through the payment process before you get to the step where they actually take the money.

You can pay by credit card now, although they charge a 2.5% service fee.

notrichenough - when you go to the View Account Activity button - does your “Financial Aid” have the word “estimated” before it? DD’s says Estimated Financial Aid and Balance including estimated aid. Not sure why the “estimated”. It is also $18 less than what it should be - does anyone know of a fee or any other reason it would be $18 less?

D’s had shown just what you are saying a few days ago until her very small departmental scholarship was finally put in the system. Now it is telling us there is a hold on her financial aid even though all requirements have been satisfied. This is quite frustrating.

Yes, it says “estimated”. But I think that is just how they word it. DD’s aid is all merit, and there is really nothing “estimated” about it. But for grants or need-based aid, maybe the awards haven’t been finalized.

It also says the money won’t be credited to your account until mid-August, so until the dollars flow, they may consider it as estimated.

For what it’s worth, my son’s financial aid page also said “estimated” (Palmetto Fellow), but we were able to pay the bill without any problem.

OK - thanks! I think we will wait until the beginning of August to see if anything changes (which it shouldn’t except the mysterious $18).

If you click on the “View Account Activity” button it shows the list of separate items for the bill.

Can you see which particular item has changed by $18?
