<p>does anyone know why the "anticipated educational expenses" are $26,900 for 2009-2009 when last year it was 21,400? im asking because i took out a loan for 16,000 with a stafford for 5,500 expecting to pay around the same as last year.. now im not sure whether i need to increase my loan amount or not.</p>

<p>yes, it’s possible to have such a large tuition hike because of lowered state funding.</p>

<p>also, the school of engineering, ernest mario pharmacy, and sebs have an extra 1k for tuition because they need more materials.</p>

<p>First off the actual Tuition didn’t come out yet so we don’t have to start panicking. Second on my Initial Offer letter it said the estimated amount is 22800. I did not see 26900 anywhere-where did you find that?</p>
<p>Ah, now I see where you got that number. The reason why you got 26900, is because you added the direct charges for 09-10 with the miscellaneous expenses (for personal use) 4200 dollars. On the other hand you did not add the miscellaneous expenses to the direct charges of 08-09. Therefore the anticipated “jump” from last year should be about 1200-1400 dollars, not 5k.</p>
<p>The 4200 number can vary per student as well. I believe it factors in books, travel home, and misc expenses. It could be considerably less for a student who doesn’t go home on weekends or saves money buying books online. Rutgers is trying to give a realistic picture of what you may need based on their experience.</p>
<p>I’ve been saying for years, Rutgers is no bargain.</p>
<p>i spend about 300 a semester on books. buy them used, join uloop and buy and sell books directly from other students, and buy them a few weeks before the semester once that info becomes available. that’s how i save money. and i don’t really have any other expenses that are necessary, just personal things ie bus tickets to visit my boyfriend, eating out, buying thingss. so yupp.</p>
<p>and rutgers is a bargain if you’re comparing it to private schools that are around the same rank according to us news. i know that source is not really all that telling, but bu, which is around where rutgers is ranked, is nearly 50k a year, for example. but compared to other good state schools, it’s pretty reasonable. uva = 21k ish suny = 18k blanking on other state schools, but you can see what i mean. but if mccormick doesn’t figure out ways to make rutgers more affordable and with the budget cuts thanks to nj state government, i can see rutgers being about 30k in-state by the time i graduate.</p>
<p>has anybody gotten their award letter from financial aid? i got the initial offer but i have yet to hear anything else from them. they are suppose to be sending the actual award.</p>
<p>my award status for 2009 to 2010 isn’t available yet either. are you a new student, continuing student, or transfer? because i think for new students, they’re mailing your final award letter to you. not sure how it is for transfers, but I’d assume that’s how they’d go about it for transfers as well. continuing students are just supposed to check online. I don’t think the award letter is supposed to come around until about july, if I remember correctly from last year. best of luck.</p>
<p>Final awards can not be sent until New Jersey passes the state budget which is suppose to happen July 1. Once Rutgers get their state budget amount they can set the tuition and know the state grant amounts. Then they can send out final awards letters.</p>

<p>check studentaid. they sent me an email. my award letter came up a day ago. it’s not the final award, but the initial offer you know, before you make any changes and reject things you don’t need.</p>
<p>yeah i already got the initial offer. I want the actual award letter. so that i can start figuring out how im paying for school.</p>
