I just got the final number for mine ('09) and it's just over $48,000 for everyting (food, dorm and tuition). I went up about $1200 I think from '08 so I'd say and even 50 is a good guess for '10. Hope this helps.

HOLY SH$T, is that a joke. Anyone who goes here over a state school in Michigan, N Carolina, Wisconsin, Illinoi, California, Virgnia is a complete retxrd.

When all is said and done, going to GWU is going to cost me ~$3000 more than if I went to the top state university (NY). It was an easy decision for me.

Different people have different circumstances and socioeconomic backgrounds. Next time, before you call anyone retarded and embarass yourself, think before you type.

$3000 more...?! how so

After checking, it is closer to $4000, but still...

SUNY Geneseo is about $15,000/year --- virtually no financial aid because Pataki and NY in general are cheapskates when it comes to educational funding. Geneseo is considered the top SUNY school.

After grants and my scholarship, GWU is about $19,000/year.

The fact that GW is in a much more desirable location (Geneseo is in bumpkinsville), is a better school, and I would enjoy spending the next four years of my life at GW made the bit of extra money worth it.

My problem is that I think I have a chance to get in, but financial aid is a must... is it difficult to get fin aid?

There is no ****ing way I can afford to pay 48 grand a year for undergrad...

i feel ya man...its almost impossible, they better give out money.

These are rough figures, but:
I got in RD.
My family income is ~60-65,000; not sure of the exact number, maybe $15000 in the bank.
My income last year was ~5000; $2500 in the bank.
We live in Massachusetts (which may or may not make a difference; higher cost of living).
Our EFC came out to approximately $10,000.
I got an $18,000 scholarship from GW, and $8,000 in need based aid. Then add in some work study and subsidized loans, and the total comes to about $30,000 in aid. That still leaves $20,000 for us to come up with, which is twice our EFC.

I'm going in the fall, in the hopes that I'll be able to get a decent work-study job, and then maybe a (paid?) internship, and ultimately a better job coming out of school than I would be able to get if I went to my state school. It was (almost) all about location for me. Hope this gives you some idea of what to expect, and possibly a little direction.

wut were ur grades like

It just isnt worth it when I can go to a state school(almost as good as GW) for free basically. But what the hell I will apply and see what they offer.

nshumeyko- you should work as a comm. host. they sit at the desk as people swipe their cards, and u can be doing anything u want while u work

I thought Binghamton was the best SUNY school?

Wow, I was planning to apply here as my safety. I'm not eligible for fin aid, so I'm not applying unless I'm told I'm in the running for like at least 15k a year in merit aid. Don't get me wrong, but no school (espcially one that accepts 40% of its applicants) should cost this much cash.

Geneseo, nicknamed the "honors school" of NY, is the best state school. A decade ago, Binghampton was the best state school.

My take on GWU....

If you are into politics/communication (specifically political communication) this is a great place to go assuming you can't get into Georgetown. HOWEVER, the pre-req to even considering GWU is a) you have a ton of money (at which point when you're thinking of GWU you might as well apply ED To a better school) or b) GWU GAVE you a lot of money. I got into GWU and even had a little scholarship, but it was still going to cost me more than out of state at another top state school, which I currently attend.

I agree with the above! GW is excellent in a few areas of study such as politics, communications, and international business/relations. Although the university is generous with scholarships and grants, you would probably be better off at Uconn or whatever your flagship state school is. Last time I checked, GW was not even listened in the top 40 colleges in the US News and World Reports, yet it is the second most expensive. (I believe Sarah Lawrence is first??) Who knows if you will get your money's worth there-and that's a lot of money!

this is where i truly regret living in alabama. i don't know, maybe i'm just prejudice but i can't see myself giving up GWU to go alabama just because of the cost. i know that isnt what yall are suggesting.... its just that the cost is frustrating me. did you guys apply for a lot of scholarships that werent school specific?

im hoping they hook me up!! lol
