Tuition up 4.72%

To Boston University Students and Parents:

I am writing to let you know of our tuition and fee rates for the upcoming academic year. The Board of Trustees has set the standard tuition rate for the 2007-2008 academic year at $34,930 and the basic room and board rate at $10,950, for a total of $45,880. These rates represent a 4.72 percent increase in the cost of attending Boston University.

We have tried to minimize this year’s increase, but we recognize that this is still an additional burden to you. To that end, our commitment to financial assistance remains strong, and we continue to do an excellent job controlling our expenses and finding other sources of revenue through philanthropy and other programs unrelated to tutition and fees. It is also important to note that much of the additional revenue we do raise will be used to improve the quality of our educational programs ad student life on campus, as well as to offset some of our rising costs.

Boston University is one of Americas best private urban universities. We continue to move forward in both the quality of our student body and the education that we provide. The value of a Boston University degree has never been greater and will continue to rise.

Sincerely
Robert A. Brown
President

Last week, housing sent a letter acknowledging receipt of the housing deposit and the back had a list of the new housing rates.

We also got that letter in the mail about the tuition increase. Since DS is a senior...we were able to file it in the circular file. I will say...we are not squawking...DS has had four terrific years and a fine education at BU.

When did you all receive this letter? Have you already been admitted?

Should have clarified.

Letter came for parents. Sister is a senior at BU.

I almost had a heart attack when I saw it in the mailbox. It came in a single letter envelope, I thought I had been rejected, then noticed it was from the office of the president and wasnt addressed to me.

Does anyone know if they'll be sending this letter to admitted freshman, or just students that have already been enrolled?

It was for enrolled students and their parents. Admitted freshmen will get their own financial material.

Speaking of which, does anybody know if having my sister attend BU helps me at all during the admissions process?

Yes it does. The more from one family the more likely you'll be a contributing alum, etc.
