What do you mean by overqualified? I mean I don’t think anyone’s getting in or waitlisted with low stats.
I know tons of people in ED with like 28 ACT and straight B’s
Straight B’s ? Come on. Well then it’s their demonstrated interest. I can tell you mine has a 4.72 and 17 honors and AP’s. 4 year athlete etc Interviewed, and wrote her AO a couple times….but that was it. Test optional.
Son Waitlisted after deferral EA - expected when he refused to switch to ED 2.
He has been accepted at UGA Honors + $10K merit/yr, U Maryland Honors, U Miami with $25K merit/yr, UCLA,UC Berkeley, USC Honors +$10k merit/yr, UNC honors, UVA Echols + Jefferson scholar (full ride), Waitlisted WashU
Ivy day tomorrow the rest TBD
Tulane admitted students ED we know with way lower stats - convicted high achievers need to apply ED 1 or 2 to demonstrate their commitment.
My son visited and really liked the campus & classes. He would have considered attending if he received some amount of merit scholarship. He has been very turned off to their games of not choosing the most qualified academically vs those who are full pay and show interest. Tulane has implemented an algorithm approach to determine who will attend before giving out acceptances. Good for them but their loss in regards to my son. I hope US News reads these blogs.
Well, add my daughter to the waitlisted column, lol! 32 ACT, 4.25 gpa and great ECs, letters etc. She’s moved on so wasn’t upset, thankfully, and will probably decline the waitlist spot, not that she’d ever come off that list. I wonder if they’ll ever release the breakdown for RD applications. Very interesting strategy; I wonder how it’ll play out over years. Good luck to everyone!
I don’t know where the stats came from, but if you scroll up, someone posted waitlist statistics from last year’s class.
We still have not seen one acceptance ??
DD deferred, then waitlisted. 98th percentile SAT, 4.35 weighted GPA with 11 APs and tons of honors classes. Nationally ranked in one sport and varsity team captain in another. Founded a non-profit and volunteer hours with the disabled. Accepted to a number of much more highly selective and prestigious schools but would have seriously considered going due to long-term family connections to the state and the school (double legacy). Go figure.
One other note: the blog the admissions dept. posted the other day was clearly trying to prepare most people for rejection. And Tulane needs to be a bit careful, imo, because rankings are starting to draw more attention: The College-Admissions Process Is Completely Broken - The Atlantic.
DD rejected. After being deferred. Oh well. Another school is going to be so lucky to have her as a student.
DD OOS Deferred and then Waitlisted. This was the last out of the 16 colleges she applied to…
Deferred then waitlisted.
UW 4.0, SAT 1510, APs 10 (4s & 5s)
Varsity letters in 3 sports, loads of volunteering, etc.
Demonstrated interest.
Oh well! So far deciding right now between UC Berkeley, Rice, U Mich, UNC-CH, USC. Waiting on 2 more schools tomorrow.
But seriously, I don’t believe any OOS applicants will wait until July, 1st to see if they have been admitted to Tulane, given the high stats of these waitlisted students. Most have amazing options with significant amounts of merit/scholarship money! Anyway!! Congrats and good luck to the Class of 2026!!!
For those here venting, it begs the question…why wait to apply RD when Tulane’s RD acceptance rate has been hovering around 10% for the last two cycles? Why not apply EA in an attempt at a better place in line?
I think EA was 10 percent too this year and I heard RD is only 1-2 percent
My kid did apply EA. Deferred. Now waitlisted. Can’t afford to apply to ED without knowing about merit.
Understand that completely. Was asking those who chose to apply RD.
This year’s stats, hearsay at this point anyway, do not answer the question as to why someone would choose to wait to apply RD for this cycle. The stats from several previous cycles are known and make the case that it is wise to avoid choosing RD to give yourself the best chance.
A lot of our kids did apply EA, were deferred, and are now waitlisted.
EA deferred, waitlisted.
