Hey CC!

I am a junior at a private Catholic high school who will be applying to Tulane Early Action this fall.
I was hoping you guys could make a rough estimation on my changes of admission.

The stats:

GPA: 3.95W/3.65UW (7-point grading scale, will be converted to a 10-point so I expect my UW GPA too look more like a 3.8 or 3.9)

RANK: 22/153

ACT: 30, will be taking it again.
35 English
33 Reading
28 Math
26 Science

SAT: Haven't taken it yet. (Yes, I am from the midwest!)
PSAT: 190

EXTRA CIRRICULARS:
3 years as Class President, Student Body President (most likely) next year.
Peer Minister (chosen and trained)
4 (2 varsity) years of football (F/JV captain, hopefully captain next year) - 2010 state champion
4 (3 varsity) years of lacrosse (hopefully captain next year)
2 years of basketball (F captain)
Worked at a restaurant, health club, country club)
Plenty community service
2 time essay competition finalist (G.R. Ford 'Courage', Economics Club)
7 years of piano (awards, competition)
Award-winning journalist (3 years school newspaper) - Editor-in-chief next year.

I've visited Tulane and loved it. The Creative Pre-Med Scholars Program interests me as well.

Tell me what you think. Thanks!

Forgot to mention:

I’ve taken 20 honors/AP courses to this point.
currently in AP English, AP Biology.

Next year: AP Psychology, AP Economics, AP Government, AP English, and maybe AP Chemistry

I’ve also been a member of our schools choir, and am founding an Investors Club next year.

You should have a very good chance. The key is to not only apply EA (you might consider SCEA also), but apply as early as you possibly can. Even within the EA deadlines and process, those that apply even earlier improve their chances. Also, show strong interest by really thinking about why you want Tulane and by attending some local Tulane events and/or visiting the school. Well, you already visited so be sure they have that fact in your file.

One thing though, your UW GPA cannot change because your school changes its point system. UW GPA is always what you would have on a traditional 4.0 scale with no weighting for honors or AP courses. So for example, if you have 2 A’s and 2 B’s, you have a 3.50 UW, even if 2 of those courses are AP courses. There are online programs where you can plug in your grades and get your UW GPA. In any case, it seems likely yours is fine for Tulane.

lol fallen just types Tulane into the search box every oppurunity he can i guess

no offense

i’m a junior and my dream school is tulane also! but anyways your ecs are very good, act is in their range and same with your gpa. what just worries me is the 26% acceptance rate. are you applying early action single choice or just regular early action??

I’m thinking of just doing EA because there are a few other schools I’d like to apply early to. (USC, U of M, etc.). I read somewhere that while the regular admission percentage is in the high 20’s, the EA acceptance rate is 67%! It must make a HUGE difference!

None taken, but yes, I do exactly that from time to time. You would be amazed at how much misinformation there is about Tulane and New Orleans out there, so I like to make sure people have the facts right. In doing that, I see other threads like this and I rather thought I had the right to respond. I am not sure why you care, but there you have it.
