@fallenchemist do you have any idea when they’ll send most of the decisions on the portal
@liam16
No, in terms of saying I know it will be, say, this Thursday. But of course a week from today is the deadline, so there isn’t much use in speculating about it now. Although I do realize that waiting through another weekend would not be fun. I am hoping they do it by Friday, but I really have no information.
When they post the notification, is it typically done late in the day or at anytime?
@Pirate70
I think later in the day/evening, but I don’t think there is enough evidence to say what is truly typical.
My deferred message was changed, too.
Mine wasn’t
Has anyone received a decision in the last week?
Oh crap my deferred message didn’t change…should I be worried…like please no Tulane has literally been one of my top choices since 9th grade.
@fallenchemist what are your thoughts?
Truly, it is like reading tea leaves. One can pretend there is meaning there, but most likely there is not.
I know this is stressful to the max, but try and just distract yourself as much as possible. Nothing you can do at this point will change their decision. I know it sounds cold, but the fact is that a lot of you will be disappointed. It can’t be helped, there are only so many slots.
Maybe the way to go is to start assuming that you will be attending whichever school has accepted you already that you like best. Then if Tulane says no, you are already started in the mindset that you will be a Florida Gator or a UC-Irvine Anteater. If instead Tulane says yes, then you are only happily surprised.
@fallenchemist This hurt a little bit to read, but you are indeed right. At this point, I’ve set in my mind that I will more than likely be a Purdue Boilmaker. I just have two more school decisions left, these schools being my two top choices. Just praying and hoping for the best. The best may be Purdue.
FWIW, I have been to West Lafayette a few times, and had friends that graduated from there and have been extremely successful since. For example, one of them now teaches at Kansas U Med School. Ph.D. after Purdue, not M.D. As “consolation prizes” go, you could do a lot worse!
My best guess is people with “complete and awaiting review” are definitely considered. My status still say defer. I think it’s time for me to seriously consider the schools that accepted me.
@woodbury2010 If you were deferred that does not mean that you are not being considered. So many people have posted that they saw their status change, and the change occurred on different dates. My son’s portal has reflected “complete and awaiting review” for a while now and he applied regular decision. Perhaps they still have decisions to make. Perhaps they are waiting to get a sense of their yield before they admit or waitlist or maybe they are waiting until Friday late afternoon to post bad news. I see us all in the same boat.
You could be right, @woodbury2010. Frankly I have never been able to figure out why they have those two different messages, when the one doesn’t really tell you anything different than the other. Where is your next choice if Tulane doesn’t happen?
@fallenchemist , I have accepted to U of MN Carlson School of Management, U of Wisconsin - Madison and Case Western Reserve. I think they are all decent schools, so I’m happy to be studying at any of them.
@woodbury2010 - They are very decent schools!! Case would be the closest to Tulane in character, but it is still pretty different. More technical in general, but their Weatherhead School is highly regarded.
I lived in Madison for a year. Coldest winter they had suffered in 30 years. 3 full fledged blizzards that winter too. It was not the greatest for me, but only because of that. The school is excellent. I know less about UMN.
Thank you, @fallenchemist ! I’m leaning toward Case since they give me more than half of the costs. You really have a wonderful life, living/visiting so many places!!!
I got a great package at Temple’s Fox school covering most of my tuition and providing 4k for study abroad. Their MIS program is top notch. I’d love to go to Tulane if I get some nice $ but would be happy in Philly. Also got into Case, Butler, TAMU, Bentley.
@woodbury2010
I spent most of my career on the business side of science, especially in research products. That took me to a lot of universities and companies doing high level research like pharma, biotech, etc. It is true I got to go to a lot of places, most of which were very interesting. Got to go to Europe a lot too. Not South America or Asia though. Not so much going on there in my field in those days, except for Japan, but someone else always handled that. There are lots of interesting things one can do with any degree, not just the obvious paths.
