Has anyone who was deferred EA gotten a positive answer? and if so did you just check gibson or did you get an email? thanks
I know at least a few people on here said they got in after being deferred. Some of them were very high stat candidates that got accepted a week or so before being informed they had won a DHS or PTA. I couple of others were not award winners, but did get in after initially being deferred. But I wouldnât take that as any kind of sign for you. They may have just had something in particular happen for them (new test scores, for example) that changed their status sooner.
I donât know about the email part. I remain pretty sure that sending an email is not standard procedure, but that individual adcoms might choose to send one. The Gibson message and a paper letter remain the standard way of informing applicants.
We sent estimated FAFSA in early January and then actual numbers several weeks ago and still showing as not received.
I am very sure they have all these FAFSA forms, but just have not entered that fact in the computer. No idea why not.
@fallenchemist Do they ever post decisions over the weekend?
@CanIgobackâ
Yes, it has happened in the past. I know I should say no just so all of you wonât obsessively keep checking Gibson but 1) I always want to be honest with everyone on here; and 2) I suspect you would just check anyway. I would say, though, that it probably does you no good at all to check more than once in the morning (in case they posted the night before) and once around dinner time, in case they posted in the afternoon. Those would be the likely scenarios, if they post at all this weekend. The odds are small, but definitely not zero.
@fallenchemist Thanks, good advice. Will they also post denials and waitlists on the portal as they make decisions? Has anyone else heard recently, and if so, was it via letter, Gibson or email?
Yes, I believe all decisions are posted once they are made.
What are my chances of getting into Tulane if I was sent an email in January to apply for the Community Service Scholarship? I heard this week that I did not get the scholarship but still have not received an admission decision. I submitted my app 11-30-14.
When does the need based financial aid package come out for Tulane? I got a 23k merit scholarship but am wondering about the need based aid.
Any day now on the need based aid.
No way to really comment on your chances, @newparadigm. Emails like you received are to make students aware of these scholarships, not really a reflection on your chances.
@fallenchemist my finaid portal says my noncustodial profile is missing even though I did it more than a month ago. I called the office and a woman who sounded very apathetic told me to just âwait a weekâ and call back. Thoughts?
@DL43516â
She was probably exhausted and you were probably her 100th phone call that day, just to provide some context. This time of year is very hard for them, it is all compressed into these few weeks for them. It tells me they are still going through all the paperwork they have received and getting it posted to the system. I would just do what she suggests. Despite the seeming chaos, I have heard of very few cases where things actually got lost and not processed.
@fallenchemistâ
Hi, I applied early action and was deferred and am still waiting to hear back. I have a 32 ACT, 3.97 GPA unweighted, have decent extracurriculars, and also wrote why tulane. After I received my deferral letter I emailed my admissions counselor telling her I was still interested in Tulane and have been in contact with her a few more times since then. I also sent in my first semester grades which were straight As. I am anxiously waiting to hear back as Tulane is my top choice and I am starting to freak out! Do you think I have a good chance at being accepted?
@fallenchemist An admission decision still has not been posted for my son, and it remains his number one choice. He applied regular admission. Do you think they are still reviewing applicants, or do you think the decisions have been made and just need to be posted? At this late date, do you think his chances now are slim for acceptance?
@CanIgobackâ
From what I can tell, Tulane still has not posted the bulk of the regular decisions, including those that were deferred from EA. They may indeed still be fine tuning the last of the decisions and waiting to publish them in a large batch.
As far as his chances being âslimâ, I am not trying to be cute but this depends on whether I give you a literal answer or a contextual one. The literal answer is that the percent of applicants that are accepted from the RD round is relatively small. I am guessing 18-20%. Not Ivy league low percentages, but still a tough process. So in that sense everyone has a somewhat slim chance. In the context of how we generally talk about these decisions, without knowing his high school record and other details of his application, I assume his chances are as good as anyoneâs. In other words, I donât think the fact that he hasnât heard yet is an indication of any extra hurdles in his way. Clearly he has to hear soon, since Tulane is essentially obligated to let everyone know by April 1.
@fallenchemist My son has excellent SAT scores- 750 math, 720 reading, 700 writing. He has taken a number of honors and AP classes. However, my concern is with his gpa- he was depressed so didnât do some of his homework assignments, the zeros significantly affected his grades even though he scored Aâs on his exams. He is doing better this year but his high school is on a trimester system, so two of his science classes (which he will most likely get Aâs in)would not show grades if he sent an updated transcript. My other concern is with demonstrated interest. He told me he wrote the Why Tulane essay but I didnât see it, and we unfortunately did not visit the school. Do you think it would be too late for him to show demonstrated interest beyond the Why Tulane essay?
Realistically, it probably is late for that. But, he has zero to lose if he does it right away.
There has been a change. It doesnât have the deferred message anymore. Says complete and awaiting review⊠how much longer was it when that happened EA?
I canât remember, but it seems to me like the decisions started coming out very shortly after that, like a couple of days.
