Tulane Class of 2019 Regular Descision.

Deferred EA -> Waitlisted. 4.0UW / 4.56 W, 2260 SAT, 1/100 class rank, etc. but didn’t show any interest. Already got likelies to Brown and Cornell, so not too sad about it.

Waitlisted, which is also my first waitlist this year. I am kind of surprised as I have never expected such result at all. Though I really would prefer a straight rejection. Having to have some false hope and have to wait for another two month is just painful, especially my stat is at the lower end of the acceptances.

Waitlisted - 2330 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, class rank 2/300, scores of 800 on 2 SAT IIs and 5’s on 5 different AP tests…I feel terrible.

@balletbooty those are fantastic stats. I think you were waitlisted as Tulane felt they were a safety school for you, so don’t feel badly at all.

Waitlisted here too. I’m totally confused. My son is in at BC and Michigan and UVA OSS. He has a 34 ACT, 3.9 (UW) / 5.0 (W) gpa, and has some significant academic and athletic awards (e.g., won city and region for golf, and state for chess). Tulane is a great school, but this was a surprise? We looked on naviance and he’s the first person from his high school with his number who wasn’t accepted. Man, this process is crazy and unpredictable.

So everyone was waitlisted/rejected because of yield protection or…what else?

What about more “average” applicants like my D who were also waitlisted/rejected (i.e. below 32 ACT)?

Tulane was not a safety for her, it was a match/low reach maybe. Other than one top-20 LAC, she did not apply to any Ivies/almost Ivies. Luckily, good merit with acceptances elsewhere.

Did anyone get accepted to Tulane RD?

I’ll post what I just told another member in a private message, since it wasn’t particularly specific to them. It is just my opinion, and being biased towards Tulane I understand some will take this as putting the best possible “spin” on it, but I think this is likely true.

And just to anticipate those that might say “Well, if that is true why didn’t they tell us earlier?” the indications of what to expect in terms of commitments don’t usually happen until about this time of year. They are still guessing some since many won’t officially commit until sometime in April, but they have been doing this a long time and have pretty good models for what the number is likely to be.

That’s my take on it anyway. On the other hand, maybe this is all premature and they are still sending out a lot of notifications. We will see, perhaps.

@4kids4colleges Rejected or waitlisted? My son was rejected.

Waitlisted @Canigoback. She answered “Why Tulane” but did not visit. Plenty of great ECs, 2 varsity sports, excellent essay, etc.

My son didn’t visit either, totally my fault not his. I am feeling the pain. He is so sad.

@4kids4colleges‌ About two weeks ago, I was accepted RD.

Every time I see someone here post a waitlist/rejection, I check the Gibson portal to double check my admissions and pinch myself. GPA is 95.61 (100 pt. scale, weighted) and 27 ACT score. Although, my ECs and personal essay can be called a convincing factor.

However, honestly, I believe it was my “Why Tulane?” essay that got me admitted. I showed a heavy interest in the school, in a strange yet effective matter. Also, the admissions office was probably aware that admitting a student like myself, with fairly average numbers, would make Tulane my number one choice, which it is in my case. Others apply to Tulane for the sake of a free application. Applying to Tulane was a reach for me, with unexpected results.

TL;DR I speculate that the “Why Tulane?” essay and the yield rate are the possible answers for this years confusion. Numbers aren’t everything anymore.

Sorry @Canigoback! Toward the end of this process, my D decided she really wants a small LAC, so she is ok
with it. We couldn’t visit everywhere. Does he have another top choice?

@fallenchemist Someone on twitter posted an acceptance a couple of days ago, so I still had hope…
Has anyone been accepted in the last week?

That’s actually the first one I have heard of this week, and that’s assuming it is true. I also see a lot of false claims on here, so I imagine people might do the same on Twitter.

@mullaneyj6, congratulations! Glad someone got accepted RD! I thought having a 30 ACT would help my D as well. Tulane was always a financial reach for us, so we did not get too invested. Still, its not happy news.

@4kids4colleges He is still waiting on decisions from Skidmore (my alma mater) and GW. He’s eliminated a number of schools that he was admitted to. In retrospect, my son applied to too many safeties. If he doesn’t get into the above two, he says he will choose between U mass Amherst, Stonybrook, and Rollins. What schools was your daughter admitted to?

@fallenchemist I’m confused. You stated that you see a lot of false claims. Are you referring to admission decisions or stats?

@Canigoback, we are in the same boat. D applied to too many safeties. We were looking for merit aid, but she should have aimed higher, in retrospect.

She is deciding between a few LACs with excellent merit aid award - Denison, Centre College (both flying her in to visit next month), Hendrix, Sewanee, and Southwestern U in TX. Accepted to a few larger schools, including University of Denver, but not interested. Waitlisted at Grinnell. Rejected nowhere, with about 16 apps. So, not the typical Tulane applicant! Maybe they figured that into the waitlist decision.

As you can see, she did not apply to NE schools, just Southern and a few Midwestern. We are in CO, escaped the East Coast and not anxious for her to go back. ;).

Skidmore is great, and so beautiful! Rollins sounds lovely too, D considered applying. I went to Bryn Mawr, and tried to get my D to consider a women’s college, but seems that is not happening (she applied to one, Agnes Scott, in Atlanta, still on the list but not likely).

Best of luck to you. Personally, I vote for Skidmore, I hope he gets in!

Well, both as it turns out, but I meant admission decisions in this case. We mods had to clean up a number of posts where people were claiming to have gotten in even though that school hadn’t released any decisions yet. Why people think that is funny or whatever is baffling. Don’t get me wrong, I think most people are honest. After all it is anonymous, what does lying get you? But like I said, some people seem to think it is funny to send the stressed out students that are waiting for decisions into a panic because they make them think others got in and they didn’t hear anything. I was just saying that it seems a little odd that someone tweeted an acceptance when no one else has gotten one that we know of, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. I just like to see more than a single data point on something like that.

Denied. My daughter is going to be okay with it as her test scores are a bit lower than their standard (she doesn’t test well) and she hadn’t visited, though she did write what I thought was a very strong answer as to “Why Tulane”. She is already in a couple of her top choices and waiting on two more that should hopefully be this week. Good luck to everyone still waiting and to anyone that is really disappointed by their decision, I am very sorry.
