It may have been a few deferred ea that got accepted. Not rd. My bad
@BabaO, not sure why you say that Brandeis is anti-Israel and pro-BDS. My DS is there now and there is plenty of support for Israel. I can give you a list of schools that have had anti-Israel issues, but Brandeis is not one of them.
Sorry for the very late response to your question, @obfromjersey but my daughter got an email, and I was just stalking her Gibson portal. She got a need-based scholarship, but it still leaves a $25,000 gap that we can’t cover. We are trying to figure it out, because this is her dream school. We still plan to visit for Honors Weekend, as the tickets and hotel are booked and paid for already.
I am just hoping that maybe somehow her aid package will increase. I know that is naive.
@superfreaked Since you will be visiting for honors weekend it can’t hurt to see if you can make an appointment now to meet with the financial aid counselor that is assigned to your daughter —you have nothing to lose to meet with the financial aid office and plead your case for more financial aid in person. Bring any information and documentation that supports your additional need.
@superfreaked I feel your pain, that’s about the gap that we have as well, and we are canceling our plans to visit Tulane. A miracle might happen between now and May 1, but that’s what finding that amount of money would be - an honest to goodness miracle. Trying to find $100K over the next 4 years is not likely to happen. Since your tickets are already paid for, it can’t hurt to ask at financial aid, but you and your daughter need to work on plan B NOW. The likelihood that you’ll be able to bridge such a large gap is pretty slim.
A little late to the game here, but just as a reference for others:
I was deferred EA and was accepted on 1/23 into the Honors Program with a Founders Award of 23K per year. I’m a female from California.
Neuroscience Major
SAT: 1530 (1540 superscored)
SAT 2: 800 Math II, 750 US History
APs: US History (5), AP Spanish Lang (4), Chemistry (4)
Good luck to all!
Anyone who applied RD get results back yet?
No. Deferred from EA waiting for RD.
Anyone been to the accepted students Tulane in Your Town reception? Is it similar to the prospective student information session? Just wondering if it makes sense for DS to go. He toured Tulane and is committed to attend.
Coffeemommy…We aren’t having a reception in our town/area, so I can’t speak to that, but if your DS has accepted and is planning to attend Tulane (my son has committed to the class of 2023) I HIGHLY recommend joining Tulane Parent Class of 2023 on Facebook! It’s a great group!!!
Deferred EA applicant. I think RD will be out March 18/19 but i’m not sure. Seems early but corresponds with past years. I have a 4.0 and 32 ACT. i’m worried about getting in after being deferred.
@purplecattt you and I have been in similar chats-
Were you in the Miami and/or UT austin chats too?
@Coffeymommy We attended a reception in our area. It was a great presentation and opportunity to meet other admitted students. It was really close to our house so it was easy for us the attend. I recommend it if it is convenient. My son and I then attended Destination Tulane the following day, which was not an overlap of information
@Bayeriffic miami! got in but no merit aid yet and i don’t qualify for need. no clue how my parents would send me and i don’t know what to do
@purplecattt I thought so! So strange-
My son gets deferred from Miami but accepted into Tulane with very large merit scholarship. This system is so bizarre! I guess there is no reason to try to figure out why these things happen the way they do bc it makes no sense. Wish you the best of luck:)
Hey @purplecattt, congrats! The best advice I can give you is to choose the college that makes the most financial sense. Even if you are able to take on mountains of debt to attend your dream school, you will probably regret it both during and after college.
@Bayeriffic hopefully both of us will get into tulane / miami! i know tulane is generous with merit so my fingers are crossed. good luck to your son!!
@WeLoveLyman thank you!
@Bayeriffic me too, deferred U Miami, accepted Tulane Honors w/very large merit scholarship, waiting to hear from the rest of my schools…
@UGG2023 so happy with Tulane…good luck to you with the rest of your schools!
