Does anyone know when the notification date for the dean’s honor scholarship is? I heard it was supposed to be late February. Also, does this scholarship add to or replace the presidential scholarship?
Since the Dean’s Honor Scholarship is a full ride, it would replace the Presidential Scholarship, I believe.
I thought stamps was the only full ride? I’m pretty sure the dean’s and paul tulane are both full tuition. So I was wondering if they let you keep some of the $32,000 up to a full ride.
@fallenchemist is your best resource!
@Gummybearz
Tulane does not add these scholarships together, or any portion of them. The DHS is full tuition plus fees. You are right that the Stamps is the only full ride academic merit scholarship, except for the Hainkel which is only for Louisiana residents. There are 5 Stamps and 1 or 2 Hainkels, I was never clear on that last number. I think it is 2.
The only scholarship of this nature that Tulane allows people to combine with their Presidential, Distinguished Scholar or whatever they got offered upon acceptance is the Community Service Scholarship, which is $20,000. But even then, it is capped at full tuition plus fees. So if someone got the Presidential ($32,000) and the CSS for a total of $52,000 but tuition plus fees was currently $47,000 (I am not sure what it will be next year, just an example) then $47,000 is what they get. Now I assume as tuition rises, so will the combination amount so it is possible that by their senior year they could easily be using the entire $52,000.
Anyway, you really didn’t ask about that. The answer to your question, bottom line, is that if you win the DHS or the PTA you are still responsible for room and board, books, plus miscellaneous expenses. Oh, and the DHS and PTA scholarships meet full tuition plus fees, no matter how much they might rise, for 8 semesters. 10 semesters if you are going for the Masters of Architecture degree.
Thanks!! @fallenchemist Any news on when the notifications go out?
Lots of information on the existing threads, @Gummybearz – look for DHS, PT, merit scholarships in the subject lines. It looks as though at least some of the DHS packets may be en route.
I JUST GOT THE DEAN’S HONOR AWARD!!! It came in the mail today via UPS, and I was SO SURPRISED because I had no idea what it was at first and didn’t expect to hear back for a while!
@Dreamer21
Congrats. Obviously you don’t check in on CC much or you would have known they were on the way. You had the least anxiety of all, lol. But that is really great that you won.
Thanks @fallenchemist and congrats @Dreamer21 ! What state are you in by the way?
@fallenchemist hahahaha I try not to spend too much time on CC, otherwise my anxiety/stress level gets to be too much to handle.
@Gummybearz Colorado!
@Dreamer21 Haha I get so much anxiety on here too. I’m in CA so maaaaybe it’s on the way
Hi! I got the Deans’ in the mail yesterday, as well, so your notification about whether or not you got it should come soon!
@vivalavida
I assume you mean UPS? Or are you an international?
@fallenchemist Do they notify you if you don’t get it? Or will it just not come?
@Gummybearz
I really wish I knew the answer to that, and I really wish I could say with certainty that the answer was that they will tell you if you don’t get it. In the past it has been very spotty, leaning towards people not getting notified. Which I really don’t like, personally. My own advice is that if you don’t hear anything by mid-March, I would email your admissions person and just ask them to confirm that you did not receive the award. It’s awkward, but I don’t know what else one can do if one wants a solid confirmation. But maybe they will do better this year and notify all the non-winners.
I spent a few years with customer service departments as part of my areas of responsibility, so I am probably a little too hard on people when I see what I consider a failing in customer care. But let me tell you, scientists are very difficult when they are unhappy customers! So it was much better to try and make sure they never got unhappy in the first place.
@fallenchemist Thanks for all of your help!! I would also prefer to get a rejection over nothing haha
Congrats everyone!!
I texted DS yesterday to tell him that the DHS’s were being received , and it was hard to believe it’s been 7 years since he got his! His Tulane education has served him well. Congrats again, and best of luck to you all!!
Hah! My D and I did the same (6 years). She was quite surprised when I told her what dlphnlvr said about admissions still referring to her project when talking to potential students and their parents about the DHS. But I think I detected a pleased smile on the other end of that text.
I didnt know that, FC! How’d dolphnlovr and you put that together?? When did they talk about past projects?
