Can somewhat provide some insight regarding the current housing situation? I know enrollment has been up, at least over the last several years. I also read an article (sorry don't have the link) that a few years ago, enrollment number spiked so high in incoming class, that they were offering freshman study abroad programs, and hoping some committed students actually and simply didn't show up for fall semester (wonder how that worked out...lol).

I know freshman are guaranteed housing and supposedly sophomores. Are their any stories about problems with sophomores getting housing?

The overall % of students living off campus seems to be relatively high, which leads me to believe rental prices are climbing for decent, conveniently located apartments. Tulane is expensive enough and maybe a lot of incoming freshman parents haven't thought much about how this could potentially add to costs in a few years.

IonNola already knows my take on this, so if anyone else wants to chime in…

Except I will respond to
That is known in the “biz” as summer melt, and it happens every year to all schools, except maybe the Harvard’s etc. of this world. A few students get into higher choice schools at the 13th hour, and never tell Tulane they have decided to go elsewhere. Or even if they do tell Tulane, it is still a subtraction from the May 1 “final” count. Other students just decide at the last minute to take a gap year, others decide they cannot afford it after all, etc. Many reasons, but it is usually around a 2% or so figure. And you are right, there was one class in particular, 2 years ago I think, that was so big they were offering some special programs to stagger the incoming class somewhat. It must have gone smoothly, because there really wasn’t much noise about it once school started. But that was pretty much a “one-off” in recent history.

FC- I’m actually not sure what your take is on this but I’ll look at some of your previous posts to find out. You have already been a tremendous help and hopefully someone else will respond.

Has there ever been a problem with sophomores getting housing? Also are there many affordable off-campus options?

Oh, I thought I had addressed this in another communication to you. I must have gotten that part confused with someone else. Sorry about that.

There is no housing issue unless they get a really huge class, which I know they are trying very hard to avoid. Since Zimple House is supposed to open in the fall, there really should be no housing issues for freshmen or sophomores. There are tons of affordable off campus options, especially if you pick up a roommate (housemate) or two.
