I’m actually on this forum due to another user who posted something similar, however our circumstances are so different, I didn’t find the feedback particularly useful to me…
Essentially I need some feedback from objective people!
I applied to USD, Tulane, and NYU for grad school in the fall. I was accepted to USD and Tulane, however I haven’t received a formal acceptance from NYU yet. (Per my follow up, the program is not entirely competitive and it looks good for me).
I know that all three are fantastic options, and I like each for differing reasons- but I really can’t decide and I thought it was time to get some feedback.
My personal situation- proximity-wise I’m fairly close to USD, so I have pretty much ruled this one out. I would really like to expand my horizons from the west coast.
I also am older than a typical student, and finished my undergrad education quite awhile ago. My undergrad was completed around a full and part-time job. I did not have the typical college experience, of spending time with other students- so I kind of want that. I don’t mean on the partying with 19year olds way- just more of immersing myself in an academic environment.
When I move, I will be living in the community, with my family- not in campus housing, or in typical off-campus housing.
Location-wise I have been to both NO and NY many times, and I love both for entirely different reasons.
NYU I see as a great opportunity to network, while Tulane has a much more “college” feel to the campus.
I also worry about safety in NO, however I don’t know how rational the fear is, as NY doesn’t worry me at all in that respect.
Post graduation, I will likely be living in NY, as my spouse put off a job transfer until I have finished school.
Does anyone have any experience with these schools? Or as an older student? Are any better than the others, in terms of quality of education, networking, or experience?
