Got expelled from private Catholic school end of Junior Year now attending highly ranked public for my senior year.

What happened last year? How long between Waitlisted and RD?
Waitlisted. Asian female, 34 ACT, 4.0, Valedictorian, multiple national and state awards along with national and state leadership for my field, 400+ volunteer hours, founder of two clubs, etc. Accepted at Vanderbilt, JHU, W&M, Purdue, etc all with some hefty merit scholarships so a little shocked. Congrats to all acceptances, and cheer up y’all!

After reading everyone’s stats, I am definitely very content with the result as applying to Tulane was just to see how far I can reach.
Waitlisted. Asian female. 32 ACT. 3.7 weighted GPA.
Accepted: UGA and many “safe” schools in Georgia
Denied: Ga Tech (well technically accepted in 2019)
Waitilisted:
White/Asian Male. 4.95 w gpa, 1440 sat.
Didn’t demonstrate too much interest.
Lol i’m not surprised cuz I forgot to submit my form of continued interest after my EA deferral until late February.
Oh well. Apparently Tulane was very selective this year, and they seem to be heavily yield protecting too (not based on my own stats, but the other surprising wait lists and rejections on this thread)

Accepted it but don’t think I’m getting off it seeing as the other waitlisted students have way higher stats but I guess I’ll have to see. Was accepted to BU on Saturday so that definitely softened the blow.

Tbh I know I shouldn’t have expectations but I’m a tiny bit surprised.
@Islands62 I think you are in good company with the feeling of being surprised. The funny thing is not one of you seem bummed. Most of you said, lol and then gave your determination. Even my own daughter had texted me first with HaHaHa before telling me she was waitlisted.
I was speaking with a Mom friend who’s son graduated last year and she said Tulane did the same thing last year. She thinks its because they want to take the kids that really want them. So do they think all the high ranking students are applying just to see what happens, but aren’t really serious about attending? I don’t know but it is odd. My suggestion would be, if this was your top school of choice, call them and tell them.
My daughter has been accepted to UChicago, Smith, UT Austin Plan II, Rice (likely letter) and about 3/4 others. Now its the IVY wait. So yes, its odd that Tulane is a waitlist, but hey, its still not a rejection.
@MisPollitas00 It makes sense. I definitely cared about Tulane–it’s actually the only school I applied to because I feel like the location, the city, the school, just fit my personality. The rest were for specific programs or experiences. However, I was offered full FA at JHU, so I don’t think I have much room to feel bad for myself. I know other people, great people, are going to get in and they 100% deserve it. Applications are like throwing a line into a pond these days–if anything comes back it’s time to be grateful.

Daughter waitlisted too. Waitlist is clearly massive and IMO being used to gauge continued interest. She is admitted to University of Michigan Ann Arbor and will not wait to see about the waitlist.
Waitlisted 1440 Sat, 3.7 GPA. I thought I wrote a very strong why Tulane essay (750 words)…
They waitlist an obnoxious amount of students because of the ranking game. They don’t want to offer students acceptance letters if they are not coming. So, they have you apply and get waitlisted then call and write and beg to get in so they can say the kids who got accepted actually enrolled. It is all a game along with the free application! They are a joke.
Waitlisted, 34 ACT, 4.5 weighted, 3.99 unweighted. Varsity sports and huge number of ECs, kinda confused but not worried about it
Accepted to BU, Northeastern w Merit scholarship, UVM honors college w merit, UMD honors college w merit, and UCSD
Waitlisted. 34 ACT, IB predicted 42 out of 45. Varsity swimming. Super strong EC’s and i thought i had a pretty good Tulane essay but oh well. wasn’t going there anyways but still feel irritated. accepted to Syracuse dean scholarship, Umass chancellor scholarship, SMU scholarship and UCLA!!! why is everyone getting waitlisted. No offence to Tulane but I felt like I had a pretty good essay.
