Waitlisted! I don’t give a crap about this school anyways tho, just applied because of the fee waiver haha so not accepting! To all those people who were accepted to top tier schools and waitlisted at Tulane, it seems like they are waitlisting people who they know are overqualified and will get into more competitive schools and chose them over Tulane, so by waitlisting us they will increase their yield. Good luck to the rest of y’all and peace out
Hadn’t heard this before. Tulane taking 800 fewer students this year:

Still waiting on a few others…
Tulane was definitely one of my top choices so it was pretty disappointing but I have some hope in the waitlist, good luck to the rest of you!

Kind of ridiculous that all of these people with amazing stats are getting waitlisted. I wonder how many spots they had left after EA and both rounds of ED for them to be THAT selective! Does anybody know why?
@pantha33m It seems that’s just part of their strategy of increasing yield. It’s pretty annoying how they operate.
I hope those that were WL that have better options / don’t plan on coming will be kind enough to decline for those who really want /need the spot
@fschil As I only applied to Tulane due to its free application and have much better options, I have already declined a spot on the waitlist so as to not waste a spot that can be given to another student.
I really wanted to go, but I have also already declined my spot on the waitlist.
I think some people are taking the waitlist as a rejection. But all waitlist means is that there were other students just as qualified, and, at the end of the day, Tulane would still consider you.
That’s true. Probably around 20,000 were outright rejected. They only put people on the waitlist that they’d want to have attend. It’s still understandably a disappointment as the kids (my included) want to know where they’re going and if Tulane was a top choice, this puts a wrench in.
I am normally not one to cry “yield protection” at a result that I don’t agree with, but looking through this thread, it is more than evident that Tulane is indeed practicing major yield protection this year. I was waitlisted myself, and while I am a little irked at having waited so long for a disappointing decision (I sent in my EA application in October, got deferred in December, and got this final decision this evening), I know that I was not entitled to a spot at Tulane, and honestly, with a 3.5 UW GPA and 33 ACT, my scores probably didn’t blow them out of the water. What upsets me is looking through this thread, seeing so many people who I know have been so passionate about attending this university and who wanted so badly to join the Class of '22, and reading about waitlist after waitlist. Tulane has every right to do this, but frankly, it’s made me lose a great deal of respect for them. I have declined my spot on the waitlist because at this point, with all the merit aid likely gone, I wouldn’t be able to afford to attend anyway. To those of you still on the waitlist, best of luck. To those who got in, congratulations on a job well done. And to those of you who were rejected or will be declining their waitlist offer like me, then I wish you all the best in finding a school where you will thrive and succeed. I am confident that you will all go on to do wonderful things.
@WiscoRunner I was also waitlisted today and, like you, I have declined the offer. I remember seeing you in the EA thread – I could tell you were really passionate about Tulane, and I’m sorry that you were waitlisted. I wish you the best of luck in finding a school that will appreciate you for the wonderful student you obviously are. Tulane is definitely missing out, but I am sure you will find an equally amazing opportunity in the near future!
@ls2018 Totally agree. My son was deferred and lost a lot of interest because of the condescending nature of the related communications. I mean, we sort of laughed at how pretentious it was and presumptuous (they know how disappointing this must be blah blah)… We were fully expecting an outright rejection so the wait list offer is cool, but we have schools that want my son to attend and with great offers; I think every kid deserves to feel like the school they attend is lucky to have them, not just the other way around.
@mrjsmom Yeah, in a process that can already be really demoralizing, the way Tulane has treated students this year certainly hasn’t helped. Congrats to your son on his other great offers – it sounds like you’re a really supportive parent, which is exactly what students like us need right now.
this article explains their waitlist

Aw, @ls2018 that’s so sweet. I actually feel sort of protective of all the kids on this forum. I’ve lived long enough to know that college choice wont be the defining factor of your lives. It’s been humbling for me as a parent to experience my own some being waitlisted or rejected, but also realize it’s probably really healthy for him (and everyone) to learn to process rejection and also to be resilient enough to find another way if your plan doesn’t pan out the way you expected. Anyway, I hope you have an option you feel good about and if you don’t…find another way!
@ls2018 Thank you! Wishing you the best as the admissions process (finally) wraps up, I know you will end up a great school that will be lucky to have you!
I literally made this account just to question this.
What’s even the point of safeties when things like this happen? Most of my friends with less stats than me are all into Tulane, yet I sit on the waitlist.
I hope I don’t sound too pretentious because I certainly am not, because I’m just so confused.
I have 1550 SAT and a 36 ACT. Rank 2 in my class of 540 with almost 20 APs. Multitude of extracurriculars and I don’t think my essay was that bad…
Hm…
I got waitlisted and it was my first or second pick so this sucks. Does anyone know how many people were waitlisted? (I had a 4.0 and a 1550 on the SAT for reference)
