Tulane University Waitlists- Class of 2018

Many schools go to their wait lists late into the summer; thus when that dream school calls, many change their plans.

@dacota - “Summer melt” is a common term in admitting departments nationally. It refers to the fact that a few students every year change their mind about attending even after making their deposit. Most probably get in off the wait list at a school they wanted more (as @UGAdawg states), but some just decide to take a gap year (or not go to college at all), others just don’t show up in August without ever letting the college know what happened to them. Generally speaking, we are talking maybe 20-40 students out of a class of 1500-1600.

Rejected off waiting list last night. Good luck to everyone else.

My daughter received her denial also. I’d be interested to know if they accepted anyone from the waitlist. Oh well, LSU here we come. Tulane missed out on a great kid.

Best of luck to all the students you got denied. You are right, BFHS83, I am quite sure they did miss out regarding your daughter. Unfortunately, all schools like Tulane miss out on hundreds of great kids every year. So do Harvard, Yale, Chicago, etc. A disappointing fact of life, I am afraid. I wish it were the last one any of our kids would face, but of course it won’t be.

Got email denial May 22 for S (was waitlisted).

obviously I’m behind on this, but for what it’s worth my friend who worked in the admissions office told me in March that they were already at yield for 2018 and that it was likely no one would be accepted off the waitlist. not the final word, but it doesn’t seem like they’ll accept many
