Tulane VS Loyola New Orleans

Just like the title said, I wanna know which school would be a better choice for Piano Performance Major. I'm a Classical Piano guy. It would be very appreciate if you could give me any idea of which one is better. Thank you very much.

Loyola’s music program is considerably stronger than Tulane’s.

Personally found Tulane’s music program to be almost non-existent…

Really? I always think their music programs are pretty much even.

Loyola University New Orleans has a College of Music and Fine Arts. Performance students graduate with a Bachelor of Music degree. It is an audition-entry program that has a wonderful classical piano performance program. I would recommend visiting campus and sitting in on a class or meeting with one of Loyola’s piano faculty members. The Dean of the College of Music and Fine Arts is also a classical pianist.
Vincson, a year ago I remember you posting about schools. What school are you in now and have you already transferred once? You are running out of time for a Bachelor’s degree. A year ago you were asking about Berklee, Crane, and a few others. What has happened since then?

Hey SnowflakVT, It has been a while after my last post. I’m very glad you still remember me. Well, here is my situation. Actually, I got in Loyola in Fall and almost experienced one semester so far. I do like this school and the Faculties here. However, before I got in Loyola. I had talked with the chair in piano department in Tulane, Faina Lushtak. And I really like this Amazing lady. I mean she’s very professional and I just feel I can learn what I want to learn with her. my current private piano professor is also a very good guy. But I just still you know, some kind of A prejudiced idea by first impressions. So I’m very hesitating right now. Actually I don’t want to transfer again, but I do want to take Ms. Lushtak’s private lesson. Could you give me any advise? It would be very appreciate. Thank you very much. Please help me out.

If you want to take a private lesson and you can spare the time and money is no object, then by all means go for it. But if you are trying to complete your degree, that focus on the current private instructor and really impress him with your skills and work ethic. If you are considering transferring again, I would advise you to finish your bachelors and show that you can stay on a path for a consistent period of time since you have already transferred once, and if you are interested in a Masters, then pursue it at Tulane or anywhere else if that still makes sense. You will meet many great teachers, instructors, and peers as a musician. They are all forever more part of your network, and you will constantly be growing that network. One person doesn’t make your career, and one teacher can’t teach you all the skills. Appreciate each teacher for what they can offer you at this time.

p.s. musicamusica has a lot of experience researching music schools … I would give her opinions extra weight, especially if she is saying that the school you are at is stronger than the one you are contemplating.
