Turned in my application, but college says it was late.

My application to transfer was due March 1st, 2015. I turned it in at 9:47 est, and i received a verification email from Common app. I received an Email today 3/3/2015 from the school I applied too, telling me my application was submitted late. Can someone explain to me why this happened?

Can you forward that email to admissions at the college?

I think that is what I am going to do, and ask for an explanation lol.

No. I do not recommend asking for an explanation, or else they will just give one, no matter if it is accurate or not. Be on the quiet offensive - this something I have had my own DSs to when something like this comes up.

  1. Forward a copy of the Common Application verification email to the admissions office showing that the application was submitted on time.
  2. And in that forwarded email note that the email from the Common Application clearly shows you submitted the application on March 1st, which was the due date.
  3. Also state that March 1st was a Sunday, so you understand if there could have been an error thinking it was late since the due date was not a business day.
  4. Then ask for confirmation that the Common Application verification email will be respected by the college as showing an on-time submitted application.

Yeah… be careful not to be snotty, though. Be professional and say that you think you have confirmation that your application was on time in the email you are forwarding from the Common Application, and that based on that you do believe you submitted your application on time.

No, you do not think you do - YOU DO HAVE a confirmation email showing it was on time. Do not give them room to tell you otherwise or else some silly employee can just make up some excuse.

Again, just lay out the facts. But, more importantly, DO NOT question your facts, as that makes you look weak and unsure of what you have. If you are sure you submitted on time and can prove it just say it. Nothing snotty about that. And make them have to prove otherwise.

Eyeroll… be polite. Don’t be pushy or rude, or they WILL find a way to say no.

^^ no one said not to be polite. There is nothing not polite about a clear letter about facts. And no one said be pushy. Just lay out the facts.

Here is an example of what to write - all facts, gives no ground, and makes them have to do the work of disproving your accuracy.

Dear Admissions Office:

I recently received an email stating that I was late in submitting my application for admission to the Class of 2019.

As noted by the forwarded Common Application verification email below, I submitted my application on March 1st at 9:47 pm. I do realize that March 1st was a Sunday and therefore my application may not have been downloaded or shown as received by your college until Monday, March 2. However, I did ensure I submitted by March 1st.

I would appreciate it if you can confirm for me that my application submission on March 1st, as per the Common Application verification email, will be accepted by your college as an on-time application and will be reviewed.

Thank you in advance for your prompt review of this matter.

Sincerely,

There is no need to worry. You are fine. All schools take a few day to process and your submission date may turn up as a couple of days after the deadline your submitted. This was true for every single one of the colleges I applied to. They know the day that you actually applied.
