Agree or Disagree? Intelligent answers would be appreciated. We had a discussion about this in class today and it really got my thinking.

Read the book “Amusing Ourselves to Death”.

Agree, there are way too many reality shows. Many of the great shows from the 90s has since ended. What we see on TV is not what happens in real life. Which can lead to gullible kids thinking that life is carefree, and being promiscuous is okay. What many don’t know is that those shows are scripted, and everything is fake. The issue I have with shows from the past is that many family oriented shows painted a picture of Utopia. Take for example '7th Heaven", the show was artificial, but it did show a positive family. A show like that will never succeed now, because many want to see drama.

The thing we see most on television is sex, drugs, and violence. Rarely do we ever see, love, friendlessness, and intelligence. And many wonder why many kids end up in jail, pregnant as a teen, hooked on drugs, or have image issues.

I agree. Does anyone not think thought that kids should have more sense than to copy what they see on tv?

This is a really hard question to answer…everyone is always like, “TV in the 90’s was sooo much better names off hundreds of shows”. I feel like we enjoyed those shows more because we were kids, and they have a sense of familiarity to us. Kids these days will be saying “Oh, you don’t know anything about good TV. We had Spongebob, etc.”, in the future.

Most of the kids in this era wouldn’t like the shows we liked to watch (Rocket Power, Hey Arnold!, AHHH! Real Monsters), and kids in the next era won’t like what the kids now are watching.
