Andi and Andison: Good luck wherever you go. It is Swat's loss, and MIT's or Brandeis' (or whichever school he decides upon) gain.

By the way, any word from NJPitcher?

Hopefully he'll weigh in!

Thanks collegialmom.
nceph let us know what happens. Good luck.

I have emerged from a healing post-wait list vat of mint chocolate chip ice cream and I have to say that I really appreciate how darn nice everyone on this board is- interesteddad, andi, hellohowareyou... People have some criticisms of CC but I've been totally amazed how supportive everyone is. Keep it up, and know that the messages you post really make a difference for some kid who knows it shouldn't be a big deal but who can't help feeling kind of down about a rejection.

bubblewrap: What are your other choices, are you still waiting on some? Swat is a good place, but so are many other colleges/universities. You can have a great time no matter where you go: College is what you make of it, anyway.

collegialmom: I didn't mean to make it sound like that big of a deal. I've already gotten into Oberlin and UChicago, both of which I'd be totally happy to attend. I guess it's just a bruised ego thing!

I'm wondering too Bubblewrap. <3

UChicago and Oberlin??? Wow!

Out of curiosity, andi, what kind of circumstances allowed your son to be rejected twice?

Bubblewrap,

I have my fingers crossed for both of us at Brown. I know how you feel about bruised ego. I was at U Chicago last summer and loved it and there's a good chance I will go there. It's just hard to see a door close with Swat. All year, I've been thinking about different possibilities and now some become real, while others recede. It takes a while to adjust to that change, even if you're happy with your other acceptances.

Sounds like Andi's son has lots of choices now. Good for him.

Oberlin and U-Chicago are great choices! But it's also good to find excuses to eat mint chocolate chip ice cream. Please let us know where you all wind up. It's a VERY exciting time of your lives!

For andison, there should be an announcing ceremony.

Something you wouldn't imagine could happen - happened.
Last year he applied to 8 schools and was rejected by all of them!
Out of the 8, he was w/l at Swat, Oberlin and Wash U but ultimately none of them came thru. This year he's gotten into MIT and a full scholarship at Brandeis. Lesson- rejection isn't the end of the world, although it's a painful thing to go thru.

Did he take a gap year?

Regardless, it sounds like he has a bright future ahead of him.

Yes he did and it turned out to be a great year for him. It was a challenge in the beginning because he hadn't been planning on taking one, nor did he especially want to take one, so it took awhile to get his wheels spinning. But in the end it's been a highly worthwhile experience and I'm very glad he did.

Getting eight rejections isn't fun but he showed his stuff and handled it well- despite a few bumps.

Andi, so glad your son's saga ended happily. MIT is awesome and it sounds perfect for him. Free ride at Brandeis is also wonderful! Thanks for sharing your wisdom with the cc community.

Andi,
So sorry that your S did not get into Swat, although I know that he has fabulous acceptances elsewhere. I was selfishly hoping that our piano playing sons could become friends! It is truly Swat's loss!

Waitlisted.

Same here! He expressed disappointment and affirmed his belief that he was a perfect fit there. Sigh. It wasn't to be. You never know- there may be other venues where they'll meet up -- by some other piano at some other time! xo

Andi, congrats to your son on MIT and Carnegie Mellon....deciding will be really hard now...! :)

Drats, Andi! I was hoping he would be admitted to Swarthmore and choose to attend! I always have thought he and my son would like each other. Well, I am so glad that your son has MIT and Brandeis and all the others to consider. Fabulous schools! We will all be waiting to hear where he decides to go.
