Twin beds not XL in dorms??

I just finished looking over the housing website - it states that beds are 78" in length, regular sized, not XL. Says XL sheets will be loose fitting. Since most colleges require XL sheets it's a good thing I checked, as I was just about to order a couple of sets. Evidently this info is sent to freshmen in their housing packet which comes at the end of August. At least all I need to return is the XL matress cover I ordered!

You're going to get a lot of mail telling you to order your bed sheets from certain companies because only they have the right sizes--not true. Don't use those order forms. I got everything for my dorm at Target (bed sheets, bathroom necessities, mini-fridge, laundry hamper, etc.) all for under $300.

I thought there was some variation in bed size depending on the dorm, but I could be misremembering. My son was in McMahon, and the bed was standard length but very narrow.

I had planned on oredering sheets from BBB or Company store in XL. From what I read tho, I think I will order regular size. I always disregard those letters from places that sell bedding, but I do have to order them from a store online and have them delivered to my brother's house in Seattle since it'll be easier since we are coming from Ohio via plane. I want to be able to wash them the night before move in day so that they'll be a little less stiff!

Sounds like a good plan!

So they're not XL? They told us at orientation that they were...

Moominmama: When I stayed at Lander for orientation, the beds seemed standard length, but they were also really narrow as well.

I checked again today w/housing - bc we got a flyer for those packaged sheet sets, etc., I opened it to look at it out of curiosity and it is all XL! But housing insists that at least Lander is regular. I hope she's right, because I did not buy XL! This is crazy - should be a fairly straightforward thing for UW to get info to us about...

Yeah, I know! I just got my housing packet today too! But this is what the "Welcome" brochure says (you probably got it too):

"The bed size for Mercer and McMahon is 33 x 78 inches. The bed size for Hansee, McCarty, Haggett, McMahon, Stevens Court, Terry, and Lander is 36 x 78 inches. Twin-sized fitted sheets will provide a tight but reasonable fit. Most students choose to purchase extra-long sheets, which provide a looser fit and are a bit easier to put on."

So I guess XL sheets are recommended, but not necessary?

The word on the street (Parents Forum) is that twin size knitted sheets are great for stetching onto longer mattresses.
