My school required two letters of reccomendation from academic teacher. I sent one from a social studies teacher and another from a business teacher whom I had two years in a row and was in charge of the FBLA, which I was in. Does the business teacher not count as an academic teacher
It’s the colleges, not your high school that determines what’s required or recommended by way of letters of rec In most cases and business teacher would not be ‘recommended.’ That doesn’t mean you can’t do it, but they would prefer recs from teachers of core subjects. Here’s Stanford’s requirement, which is typical, as an example:
We recommend selecting grade 11 or 12 teachers in two of the following subject areas:
English
Mathematics
Science
Foreign language
History/social studies
You may submit an evaluation from a teacher who taught you in grade 10 if the coursework was advanced (e.g. Honors, AP, IB, etc.). If your school does not offer such designations, use your discretion when asking a teacher from grade 10 to write you a letter. We will accept a maximum of two teacher evaluations.
If English is not the primary language of instruction at your school, review our guidelines for translating teacher evaluations.
Above advice is good about recs being from core subjects. In my high school it was generally agreed that it’s best to submit one rec from a math or science teacher and one from a humanities teacher (English/social studies/language) to show that you’re a well-rounded student and can perform well in both qualitative and quantitative subjects.
