Two Interviews

Wait...so if I've had an on-campus interview I'll still get a call if there's an alumni interviewer in my area? I assume there is, I live in an area of Los Angeles I would think has a lot of Yale graduates.

Will they strictly pair me with someone that I listed as my intended major. le sigh If I had a choice I would have put down two majors, which are seemingly different. I do plan on double majoring. Political Science and Theater.

Thanks, AA. It's nice to be informed about the process. I'm waiting for my email or call, but I'm not holding my breath as when I spoke with the admissions rep he told me that the area that I like in is swamped with applicants, and its rare that I would be interviewed...but to most definitely take it if offered one.

I know they are evaluative, but are they by any means drilling?

Enteril - my interviewer called me today, and one of the first things he said (after introducing himself) was "so I see you've had an on-campus interview... good for you..." (not sarcastically lol). It's just on their sheet so I guess if they have a lot of people to interview you might get last priority. But my area probably has enough Yale alums to have a different interviewer for each early applicant, so I still got my interview quickly.

leftylafty - what kind of info did he know? If he guessed which high school you went to, he could already know that since he lives in the same area. If he knew what your essays were on then he definitely saw your application. If he asked about your activities then you could've mentioned them in a previous response.

chessalltheway - my guy called me (and from his work phone so I thought it was a company trying to sell me something at first!) the same day I got the email.

In response to theoneo, my interviewer also mentioned the fact that I had taken an on-campus interview. He asked me if I still wanted to do an alumni interview since I had already done one.

Whether you have had an on-campus interview is another piece of info provided to the ASC director.

If you have had an on-campus, you are less likely to get an alumni interview as the interviewers need to cover those who haven't had any interview first.

I would agree, AA, with the exception of EA applicants. There probably aren't enough applicants to overwhelm the ASC committees right now. Everyone from my school applying early to Yale has been assigned a different interviewer so far, and I doubt many (or any at all, for that matter) RD apps have been submitted.

theoneo--Different ASC areas have different numbers of interviewers and different application dynamics. I'm throwing out the idea that people who have been interviewed on campus may not get interviewed by an alum so on-campus interviewees don't freak out if they don't get an alumni interview. From the location stated on your profile, I'm assuming you are from New Jersey, a state with a large alumni base. Things might be different in, say, Wyoming.

Hehe. Yes, I'm in NJ.

My D just got a call from a Yale alum to set up an interview for this coming Friday. She told me that the alum mentioned on the phone that he had her grades. He also knew that my S is a freshman at Yale this year. I can't help wondering how much info the ASC had given him.

I don't think I'll get an interview :(
I live in a rural area in Southwest Virginia... I don't think there are any Yale alumni within a 100 mile radius of me.
