Brown is the only school I am applying to that requires recommendations from two different teachers, and so I was wondering: is it generally a bad idea to ask for recs from two teachers within the same subject? I’m planning on majoring in English and wanted to ask for recommendations from my English teachers from both junior and senior year, as I feel like they are probably most familiar with me. Is this even allowed; and if it is, is it advisable?

IMO..you might show more breadth by using one english, and one from another core subject-ie: math, science, govt. I sense in visiting Brown was that they like students with multiple talents, with empasis on area of passion. So, if you were to have both letters from same subject teacher might suggest passion, it might present you as one deminsional. I hope this helps your thought process as to what reflects your strengths. G'Luck-Brown is a great university!

Personally, you should do what reflects you the best.

Never get a recommendation from a "core subject" that you simply don't like. What I'm trying to say is, never sacrifice your own personal integrity in order to fit into some mysterious conception of a perfect applicant.

No one on this planet is one dimensional. Everyone has a set of complexities to them, and the adcoms know this. That being said, the people who do get into Brown are the people who have the drive to pursue those talents to some end of "success".

But honestly, my advice to you is simple:
If you love something, show it.
