Typical day at Summer@Brown program

@unicornrainbow$300 is part of the tuition.

And @AliceCameo, my Summer@Brown experience was absolutely amazing. Nothing will ever top it. Good luck! :)

Hi, sorr I’m still a little confused. The program I am applying for is $3540 and I already paid $300. But under the “Make a Payment” tab, it says in the fee box $3540… should I subtract $300 from that? My parents are bugging me about it because they said I didn’t read the information carefully enough :frowning: Thanks!

The $300 is a deposit and basically says you are going to the program. The $3540 is probably the amount after that. I would call Summer@Brown because this was honestly a year ago and my memory is fuzzy!

Hey ISolve, I just got accepted into the program and I plan on taking that creative writing course for fiction. I love writing and it is something I’d love to pursue, however my school doesn’t really offer any enrichment for it. That’s why I stick with the research program- which brings me to another point. I’m going to be a rising sophomore, but the course blurb suggests that if I’m going into 10th grade, I should consider a different class. Unfortunately, 2012 is the only year I can do Summer@Brown due to my research in the following summers. It’s something I really want to do, but should I really reconsider, or is it something I could handle? Thank you :D

@goldlionm I answered your private message :), but you should definitely do it! You’re going to be one of the younger ones in the course and it’s a good amount of work, but definitely something someone going into sophomore year can handle.

I did the 3 week program. It’s nice for a highschool kid because it is probably the first time you’re on your own and you’re surrounded by a lot of people your age from many different backgrounds.

Make sure to be social the first few days and make a lot of friends, because after that people split up into cliques. I ended up not going to the classes after the second day because they were early in the morning and very long

I ended up spending most of the time in my dorm and with my roommate, I also went to the gym a lot and got more ripped. The kids were a little immature (but after all, it is highschool kids), but keep in mind I am saying this as an 18 year old. If there’s one thing I regret it would be not taking advantage of the profound sluttiness of the girls at the summer program. I was surprised to find that a lot of the girls were attractive and pretty easy in general. I woke up once in the middle of the night to the sound of a girl moaning, and there was some hooking up as far as I know.

There was a fair amount of smoking and going to the hookah bar, but this depended on the group you hung around with. If you’re interested in going to a top college, there are probably better ways to spend your summer, although it wouldn’t be a bad idea going there for just 2 weeks if you can manage it and experiencing it, as it was a fun experience. I lived in Bronson

hii! I got in and im going to take infectious and epidemic disease, any of you know if its good? Also, im going for two weeks, what you I take?

*not you, should :)

IT’s AWESOME! DO IT! I DIDN’T READ THE THREAD, BUT THIS WAS THE TIME OF MY LIFE!

They give you so much freedom, it is basically like living at college. Obviously, there is some structure, but you are free to do whatever you would like. I have no doubt that you will enjoy it.

I took Understanding the Nation’s Health----> AWESOME CLASS! we had 9 kids, 2 professors and a TA ! Basically, it was one on one… learned so much in such a little period of time.

Hey. Just read this thread. I applied for the leadership course and got in.
I was wondering whether I can take two leadership courses-- The science and technology one and the conflict resolution/ organise, mobilise…
Help?

You can take two leadership courses, but I recommend not taking two courses at the same time. I know someone who took two courses (not in the leadership institute) and although they learned a lot, they wished they hadn’t taken two courses at the same time because they missed out on some of the experiences of Summer@Brown.

Plus, the leadership institute does a lot of things differently than a regular course. I’m not positive, but I think classes are all at the same time, so I don’t know if it would be possible to take two at one time. You should definitely contact Summer@Brown or look on their website to see what time the classes start.

If you’re talking about doing two classes at different times, then I say go for it. Summer@Brown is a very rewarding experience, so stay as long as you can!

Anyone from the midwest headed to Brown this summer (July 2 -13)?

i did summer at brown this past summer…i was there for 4 weeks. for most of the day you hang out, and then you’ve got your 3 hour class. “hanging out” involves shopping/eating/walking around on Thayer St. (lots to do!), going downtown to the mall/movies or going down College Hill a bit to the RISD campus, where there’s artsy little shops, a really great museum and a waterfront. At night there are usually campus events like movie nights, lectures, dances, etc. (also lectures are sometimes given during the day, as well as “college success seminars” with tips about apps, studying, etc.). Amazing experience, so stimulating and fun, met great friends and learned a lot about my course subjects but also how to be a better student. I’d recommend it to anyone over and over and over again!!!

Hi, im thinking of singing up this summer for the three week class on how to choose a stock. I was just wondering if its worth the money and fun? I stress about school work a lot considering I take some challenging classes in high school. Is there a lot of work for this class if anyone knows? I want this to be a fantastic learning experience; however, I would like to have free time and really enjoy my time there. I dont want to be swamped with homework all three weeks.

Hi  I’m a rising sophmore as well and thinking of applying for the Experimental Writing program at Brown. Did you find that it was worth your money and that it was a great academic experience? I would need a fair amount of financial aid to attend, so I would like to know before I apply :)

A lot of people seem to be worried about what to do in their free time.
THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO!!!
I think instead of taking more courses, you should really take the time to explore Brown and Providence, especially if you want to apply to Brown. I benefited so much from just meeting professors, talking to actual Brown students, and just simply getting the vibe of the campus + Providence.

After all, BROWN is what makes this program special right? Or else people might as well just go to any program that teaches you about writing or whatever.

Hi! If i’m only taking one leadership course, do I take the class ALL day during each class session?
