My daughter sent a “thank you for your time” email to an Ivy admissions officer with whom she met at an admissions event at a local high school. Today (a week later) she sees a grammatical error in her email…she didn’t capitalize the name of the high school…she knows how to write and she is mortified she didn’t proofread her email well. She sent it late at night, but that’s still no excuse.
I know Ivies admit very few people as it is…but is this something that will keep her out if they would otherwise want to admit her?
No.
The AO probably gets hundreds of emails a day. A TY email will get a cursory glance, at most. I doubt the AO even noticed.
Phew, thanks. We’re under no illusion about chances in general - but this is one Ivy where she fits with their vibe and setting and pretty much everything else, and I think she’ll at least be in the running (with still a tiny chance of admittance regardless, she understands that)…so I hate to think she completely did herself in with her failure to proofread. She won’t make that kind of mistake again, that’s for sure.
Not critical with emails, but when it comes to the application and essays, I would advise her to get someone else to proofread her essays. We’ve all been guilty of proofing our own stuff a million times, and still missing something that a fresh pair of eyes would likely catch immediately.
