What do you guys think are my chances at getting into a school like University of California at Santa Barbera?? That's my favorite so far, but i've also applied to UC Berkeley, Cornell, Stanford, and WPI. Where do you think i'll be accepted? i hate having to wait till march

BTW: I am a white male. And i'm NOT a California Resident
Also, i go to a super hardcore suburban public high school. I think the best or second best public high school in NJ, not completely sure.

...i hope i haven't forgotten anything...

PiEfLiP:

UCB: Reach (out of state)
UCSB: Match (out of state)

I don't think a lot of out-of-state applicants get accepted, so there is a lot of competition. Nevertheless, you do have some chance.

thanks, that helps to subdue some of my anxiety...anyone else?

Cornell and Stanford are reaches, but are definitely possible

WPI is probably a match or safe match

As far as the UC schools, I have to ask: why? uc schools are a great deal in-state. You're attending one of the top U's in the country (or at least a very good one, depending on campus). For the assertive student who is willing to steer her/his education its wonderful.

However you can get FAR more for your money somewhere else (other than a uc school) if you're not a CA resident. You're going to pay almost $41K a year to attend!! For that much money you could attend any private and get smaller classes, personal attention from profs, a faculty advisor, regular contact with a counselor, and so on.

why UC? I went there and fell in love with the place...
My mom's job pays up to 10 000 tuition at any school, so its not that much of a problem also. But i definately love it there, and that's why i'm so worried about my chances...

Wow. What kind of job would pay for that much tuition?

she works for a university...not much pay, but great benefits!!

kchen, reciprocal tuition is a benefit many schools offer. One big program is called "tuition exchange" and gives the equivalent of about $20/year. See http://tuitionexchange.org/whatiste.cfm

But back to the original post, even if your mom's job pays $10K that still means your family has to cough up about $30K each year.

well, yeah, there are loans, and i can work part time
thats not the point
the point is do i have a chance??

you want to go to a cali school too? lol i seem to be the only jersey girl who wants to go so far

UCB: Reach (OOS)
