when will be D-Day for early-alternatives, i checked old archives, ppl got them through snail mail last year between 14-17, so that means chicago made decisions prob on the 15th i guess, could we possibly hear tommorow via email?

Gerald said that they are planning to e-mail decisions next week. I can't see Easter Saturday/Easter Sunday being the e-mailing days.

Good luck bball, you have a much better chance than I do.

GL to you too.

good luck to both of you! The wait is hard, but we're nearly there now...

Does Chicago E-mail or only use snail mail?

this year---emaillll

Also, all transfer decisions will be sent out via email this year, something we have never done. I will have more information about this later

I guess he didn't mean that he would also post the new information, just that he would have new information later. Argh

Good luck to all of you, I hope any one that doesn't take my spot gets in :P I still have a month to find out.

Do other colleges email notifications too? I thought they usually put the decision up on their website. At least the schools I applied to last year did.

They may defer your decision to the regular round if I am correct ?

Would they? High school deferrals make sense, because they can check up on grades and other important things. But in college, with a one-month interval between? It doesn't seem like deferring would make much sense.

chicago early alternative can defer u to see ur mid-term grades

however, in my circumstance, i not only was accepted as a freshman and i sent them in mid-term grades, i doubt i am gettng deferred

i am exepcting a reject/accept scenario, and if i get a letter saying they need more info on me, something is up, b/c they have all of the info they will ever know

I presume Mid Semester grades would make sense in that case. Bball, where does Chicago rank on your list of prospective colleges. ie ideally which offers would you accept over UC

um, to be honest, if i was just left w. chicago, there is no certainity that i am leaving cornell, i got in last year, and i chose cornell

however, its a 50/50 bet

the only 3 that i would leave cornell for a 90 percent chance, (Columbia being 100 percent) would be Columbia, Penn, and Brown

those, are definetely over Chicago and Rice for me

haha, interesting, I am trying to leave columbia for uc

why, what is ur reason

We think we'll send decisions sometime during the week of the 17th....when we know more...we'll let you know."

that is from the blog

so when will we know

They haven't been paying too much attention to the blog lately. A simple answer they put up (even if it is "we don't know") would help calm down most of us (or you, the EAers).

Also, I think they should have sent an email that they were extending the deadline. I said that on the blog too. I love UChicago but I guess theres always room for improvement...oh well.

Gerald Doyle said...

Sorry for the slow response....I've been swamped here installing a new document imaging system....our reading and review of transfer applications has been slightly delayed...though we're in full swing...but an increase in first-year applications which had to be sent first....I think we're running a few days behind our anticipate schedule.
I'll write an update on Tuesday to let you know where we are.

Gerald ---> Jerry
I found that interesting.

Hopefully RD's won't be delayed. I wish colleges would give out specific statistics regarding transfers.

I want my decisiiiiooooon! Even though it's a big fat N0.

It can also be a small thin Yes.

I have applied to pretty far reaches and honestly, I don't feel like I will get in at any of them. Sometimes I kid myself thinking that my essays were great or my new scores will help me, but I doubt it. Even if I do get in I'm not sure if I can go (esp chicago since they don't give aid to international transfers (***!)). So I don't expect too much. However, it has come to a point where I have become very motivated to do things that would help me when I apply next time, such as working (this has more to do with me having money...), building up strong EC's, better grades, focusing on creative writing, etc. Hopefully the motivation will last and I'll be in better shape for the next time I apply.

No matter how low my expectations, I still can't help to dream about Chicago though. I don't even know why, I'm just drawn to the school... gl
