Just from the profile picture, you should consider going to Michigan state.

I would consider U mich and NYU as pretty high reaches. Unless you can get your act to at least 30 you probably have almost no chance.

@ChoMama So you are saying Umich doesn’t normally admit students that receive less than a 30 ACT score? I am asking because I received a 28 (30 superscored) on the ACT and I just recently applied.

@AcceptableName
UM places more of an emphasis on GPA than on ACT/SAT. Michigan calculates their GPA on an A,A+,A-=4, B,B+B- =3 etc. basis. GPA will be adjusted based on perceived HS quality and grading curve. I have seen admissions with ACT as low as 25, but that is pretty rare even for in-state and GPA is very high. With a GPA of 3.5 and 3 AP classes all schools listed except MSU are going to be reaches. The OP could improve his/her chances by increasing the score 5-7 points

Considering the above information, would my chances increase if I had a major of musical theatre (grade-wise, as an audition is required for all the above schools)? I have applied to these colleges not only for an undecided major but also for musical theatre. Thnak you for the reponses.

Well, for NYU Tisch is actually one of the hardest schools to get into. Unless you are totally committed to the school and have amazing EC’s, your chances would actually be worse. I would do some more research.

@AcceptableName I know that for my school, people don’t really consider U mich unless they have over 2200 (I think that converts to around 33 ACT) and ridiculous GPA’s. However, college admissions are not just based on scores. Good luck!

After further personal investigation, it appears I am in better standing that previously said academic wise. For example, U-M SMTD states competitive applicants have an average ACT composite of 26 and a GPA of 3.0… Most colleges do not use academics to a great length for admissions into musical theatre, although they are used somewhat to view if the applicant is ready for college-level work and/or if the applicant should receive merit-based scholarships.
