Hello! I’m a rising junior in high school, and I’m interested in visiting University of Michigan over the summer while I’m there for a vacation. This will be my first college visit, so I don’t really know what to expect. If anyone has ever visited here before, and has any advices for me, please leave them down below, and that would be very helpful. Thank you!
I personally think it’s better to visit during normal semesters when everyone is there, it makes the campus seem more alive and you can better picture yourself there. Also, if you can, schedule a visit with the honors college while you are there! I visited in March and the honors college had an ambassador get in contact with me and schedule a meeting. We went to south quad dining hall and I got to learn about the honors college and ask any questions I had to an actual student, which was super cool! I hope you like it.
@Views @Ashdew77 Yeah, it’s pretty dry during the summer as even though summer/spring courses are still going on (and can still give you an idea how classes are run), it isn’t the same as being able to see the hustle and bustle of students walking all across campus on an average day.
And as a quick correction, it’s the Honors Program (as opposed to the college that exists as its own entity at a lot of universities). It’s still embedded within LSA.
@Views I couldn’t help but to also help you with this question as well, even though you posted this a couple of months ago. I visited in the summer from OOS when I was on vacation as well. All you need to do is set up an “appointment” online before you go. There is no cost.
It was such a beautiful campus! It’s my #1 school at the moment (even though I’m only a sophomore lol). I got a bag with a few items in it that explained more about Umich, as well as visited the campus store for a t shirt! The tour is long and very informative. The tour guides are also very enthusiastic.
The only downside is that if you want to vist a certain school, I believe you have to set up an different appointment farther ahead of time (if you want the formal version). However, you can also visit the other schools on your own time to look at them.
Michigan has both Spring (May/June) and Summer (July/Aug) half-terms, so I would check the academic calendar when you visit so you can attend a class.
