UMich Visit

So, I'm visiting U-M at the end of the month from North Carolina. I'm going in a car, since my mother is afraid of planes ....
How was the tour? I am applying as an LSA freshman, but I have an interest in the music program. Could I ask the music director if I could 'shadow' a class, or something?

Also, since I'm visiting from NC, I think that will boost my application. Anyone traveled that far?

People travel to Ann Arbor from all over the world to visit the campus so I doubt that the visit in itself will do much to boost your application but it will show a demonstration of interest and will definitely not hurt.

The tour and the information session are interesting but it covers only a small portion of the central campus and will not give you much information on the music program which is on North Campus. I would definitely not limit your visit to the tour.

I think it would be helpful to contact the music school and ask to shadow a class. For the most part the faculty at U-M will give you a favorable response.

I hope you enjoy your visit.

Alright, thank you. :)

Look for tours that include North Campus. Not all tours include North Campus. If they don’t offer a tour of North Campus during your visit get directions how to drive there or see if you can hop on one of the buses that go to North Campus. It’s a whole 'nother world there and most freshman are housed on North Campus. If you attend, many of your classes may be there, it would be a shame to miss North Campus. Dress warm you’ll be tromping around.

Alright, thanks for the advice! I’m pretty excited. I’ve been to Ann Arbor once – it’s beautiful.
