To apply for financial aid at the university of michigan, we only have to submit the CSS Profile and FAFSA right?

How about tax returns? And if I am selected for verification, does anyone know what additional materials I should submit and by when? I plan to submit all financial aid materials within the next few days for all my schools, but being selected for verification somewhat complicates the process (i.e. not all the schools explicitly state what to do or send in). So in the case of U-M, do I submit some kind of verification worksheet (where do I find the form?) and any other forms? Or should I just wait for them to contact me about it before sending anything in regarding verification?

The thing is, the website says those selected for verification need to send in all verification materials before they can be fully considered for all aid, grants, scholarships, and other financial aid programs. Being low income, I want to send in everything early enough so that I can get a concrete estimate of my financial aid package since it will be FA that will ultimately determine if I can even consider going to U-M.

Any and all inputs are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not sure how much this helps, but UMich also wants Farm/Business supplement from collegeboard if one or both of your parents own a business or a farm. This only applies to self employed parents, but either way, shouldn't be neglected I guess.

Thanks compactrunner, that was certainly important information. My parents are technically self-employed (e.g. real estate agent - receives 1099-income), though they do not own any business. Should I mail this out soon or perhaps wait until they ask me for it?

I'm pretty sure you need to send it out. Don't remember the deadline because I sent mine out when I did fafsa/css and the likes in January, so I'd just get it in as soon as possible. I think it is mandatory if your parent(s) use a 1099. It asks pretty specific stuff about the business though, so maybe do some more research regarding the real estate situation. Assuming you need it though, get it in asap.

Hi there. Just so you know, I called Fin Aid with respect to the farm/business supplement pdf that showed up on my CSS profile link and they actually told me we DO NOT need to send it in (unless they request it at some future point.)

Our company is a C-Corp however. But I just though I'd let you know to check first because there is the possibility you may not need to do all that legwork.

Cheers, K
