Hey
I'm an out of state student who's a frosh in CSOM honors. Last year CC kept me enteratined and helped me out quite a bit, so I'm here taking any questions anybody has about the U of M, not just CSOM.

I'm not going to act like I know everything that's going on, but I have a lot more insight into things than you do ;). So if you have any questions feel free to ask them.

I am a parent of a D thinking about the honors program. How do you like it so far? Do you live in the honors dorm (Meadowbrook?). Is it really inconvenient being on the west bank for freshman classes? Have you been able to make friends, and lastly, how overwhelmingly Minnesota is it? (I say this with a straight face as my whole family lives in the state.)

hey i'm going to send you your answers through a pm. sorry for the late reply..i forgot about this thread :S... but if anyone has questions just ask here and i'll get back to you

Hi, I'm a prospective student from Milwaukee, WI. I go to a very competitive h.s. Does U of M look at the quality of h.s. when making decisons. Also, does carlson care more about GPA (weighted or unweighted) or class rank.? Thanks

they'll probably take it into consideration. they'll probably care mostly about unweighted gpa, but they'll look at the difficulty of your courses. do you have stats to share?

on a scale of 1-10, how unbearable would you rate the winter weather?

i'm from an area with a mild winter that usually fluctuates in temperature and amount of snowfall.
5 inches of snow in one session is a big deal here!

razzle: i'm from here, and i honestly think it's not as bad as people make it out to be. i know a lot of people who have moved here to attend the U, and they have actually embraced the weather a lot. who doesn't love ice skating and snowball fights? (not to mention extreme sledding).

weather is what i am used to since im from dakota territory... the weather has been pretty nice this fall, but it's been pretty cold lately. it's not that bad though

zouman you'll have a good chance. if you get waitlisted or rejected be sure to appeal. i know some people with a 25 act that appealed and eventually got in. there are some crazy admission stories with carlson, but with a double in class size you'll be fine

my complete app was received for carlson (CLA 2nd choice) on October 15th and I still haven't heard anything yet
private school (doesn't rank)
in state
rigorous course load all honors and 4 APs
3.67 UW/4.0 W
26 ACT
lots of extracurriculars, sent great recommendations
internship experience

i know my stats may be a little low for carlson standards, and I am just driving myself crazy. just wondering if i have a chance at carlson, or CLA for that matter
:(

i have a 28 ACT and im in the top 9% of my class with a 3.9 G.P.A. My school doesnt offer any AP classes but ive taken just about the hardest classes i could. im worried about a few things...1) my class rank is slightly below average 2) my school offered honors english and i took normal english because i thought i had to (long story haha) and 3) i didnt get my app in until november 27 because i didnt apply til i got a good ACT. do you think ill get in...?

with the add on to Carlson, will they be taking more transfer students within the U of M or is this addition designed for Freshman? I know they are completely changing the curriculum for Freshman in '08, so it makes me think that the expansion won't help transfers much.

isnt the average ACT for carlson 28? im not sure if you were talkin to me or mngirl haha i think u were talkin to me so ill answer it. i live in iowa but my dad lives in rochester minnesota. we asked the university and they said that odds are, if i make it and i apply for in state i will get it. i realllly hope i make it in i will be pretty bummed if i dont...but thanks : )

If you have been admitted to CLA can you transfer into Carlson or do you have to spend a year paying your dues at CLA then transfer as a sophomore?
