U of M ? NEED HELP

Currently I’m a sophomore in highschool and have high ambitions. I want to go to U of M or any other school in that range. I took 1 AP (all my school offered for sophomores=APUSH). Next year I’m taking 3Aps which are Chem, gov and Lang. This year Chem really messed me up as I finished with a C. I’m currently at a 3.3 but plan to do much better next year. I also am in other clubs and sports. Any suggestions ? Anything helps

“I want to go to U of M”

Michigan?
Minnesota?
Massachusetts?
Maryland?
Maine?
Miami?
(there are a few others which seem less likely).

You should work hard to try to get your GPA up, take APs in subjects you are good at, and maintain an open mind regarding which universities you consider. There are a lot of very good universities.

U of M Michigan Ann arbor

It is an uphill battle, but it can be done. Aim for all As in tough classes next year and secure an impressive set of standardized test scores.

If you have a 3.3 GPA through Sophomore year, I don’t see how you can raise your unweighed cumulative GPA to over a 3.6. With a sub 3.6 GPA, the odds of getting into Michigan are next to nil. Still, if you manage a 4.0 unweighed GPA next year taking 3 AP classes, you will have a shot,

Thanks ! I plan to really improve and since I just moved to a different state I had a transitioning phase ( which took me a while to adjust to) I hope the colleges see that. Thanks again

Yeh not losing hope yet lol

Pulling up your GPA for next year and for the rest of high school will certainly help you in university admissions, regardless of whether you end up at Michigan or at a different university. An uptrend looks good for admissions. Good luck with this!

I would suggest attending community college if you’re worried about your GPA.
When I graduated HS, I had a 3.0 and had taken only one honors class. My ACT was also in poor standing (mid-twenties).

I attended community college for 62 total credits (most transferred) and was accepted without being wait listed. My GPA in college was 3.75 and included many math/science classes.

Don’t ever let the high standards of the university fool you as a HS kid. Work hard, research the school/programs you’re interested in, and make yourself stand out within the crowd.
