U of M Twin Cities

I am thinking of transferring for the fall of 2010. I am a resident of Minnesota and I am applying to some pretty well known schools. With a GPA of about 3.7, is the U of M Twin Cities a reasonable safety school? How hard is it to transfer into the U of M as a business student? What kind of reputation does their school of management have?

Any insight into these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

At the undergrad level, the U of M-Twin Cities is a few notches below the top public schools (Berkeley, UCLA, UMich, etc.) A 3.7 GPA from any school (including community colleges) should be fine for transferring to U of M-Twin Cities.

The Carlson School of Management, at the undergrad level, is good but not great. Carlson at the undergrad level is a few notches below business schools at top flagships (Darden at UVa, etc.) and thousands of miles below top places (Wharton, Haas, Sloan, etc.)

One main factor is that I would like to go to law school. Another question would be in terms of law school admission, would a great GPA from U of M be adequate for admissions into a top 20 law school (while of course receiving great marks on the LSAT, etc.)?

Yes. Going to Carlson for undergrad is fine if you want to go straight to a top 20 law school. Being in the top 3% at U of M-Twin Cities would make admissions into a top 20 law school likely if your LSAT is excellent. What Carlson, and U of M-Twin Cities in general, is very poor at is placing its undergrads into top investment banks on Wall Street, less than two of it’s 28000 undergrads makes it each year.
