U of Maryland and Columbia?

There are 2 courses I'm interested in for these summer programs. I haven't heard many comments about the Maryland one. For the Columbia one, I heard some good reviews and some very negative ones, but also that they've sort of improved since then. If you've attended either of these recently, could you please tell me what you felt about them?
Thanks! :)

Umm, I’ve attended the Columbia one in the past. I was a commuter, and commuters didn’t really have opportunities to be involved in the social aspects, so I generally just hung out with some kids in the city. However, I do know the academics were not challenging (at least my class wasn’t), and I had taken the course as a rising 9th grader. I did hear from my residential friends, though, that the social aspect was pretty wild and people had fun even though they didn’t learn much… ^_^

The UMaryland one I haven’t attended before, but I noticed it awhile back too and i thought it looked awesome. I’m applying this year. :)

yeah, it doesn’t look TOO pricey, only 3,000 for residential. which course are you planning to do? :)

Columbia is a joke…

I went there for residential and had fun, but it doesn’t look good at all for colleges.

For example, I knew a kid who went to the columbia summer program 2 years in a row and is a triple legacy. He got rejected.

I was debating between the ‘Geography’ and ‘International Political Relations’ courses, but I think I’m going for Geography. How about you? (If you go, anyway.)

And yeah, the pricing looks pretty decent to me, unlike some of the crazy $6k programs out there that I’ve seen…

I’m considering a community service thing in a different country, CTY, TIP, and the U of Maryland one right now. If I were to take the Maryland one, I’m thinking about the one about leadership/speaking, but I’m not sure
