I can't decide betw these two...I really wanna go into medical schools...I was accepted in bio science in UMD and pre-health science in UW...I understand UW has awesome medical schools but idk if it matters in the undergraduate...some help pls..? ><

If you do very well in your undergraduate courses (especially the quantitative ones), and you get exceptional scores on your MCAT then either of these state flagships will work out well for you. They are both highly regarded, and they have depth in their course offerings. So for your intended goals (medical school) and from an academic perspective there is no easy way to pick one over the other.

That they both have awesome medical schools is not especially relevant. There are 2 applicants for each medical school space, and there is no guarantee that these universities will accept you to medical school just because you were there as an undergraduate.

Take it one step at a time and figure out which university will suit you better. University of Washington is an urban school – right in the middle of Seattle. University of Maryland, while not quite so urban, is just miles from DC, and a few hours away from all the major east coast cities. Winter is somewhat drab in Seattle, but summer/early-autumn is awesome. There’s very much a west coast ambiance in Seattle, and an east coast one in Maryland. Not an easy decision. But it must be nice to have such options.

thanx so much…!!! I live in Maryland but I’m now in Seattle for my spring break. I think I like UW better since I probably don’t have to shovel snow as much as I did in maryland…but I have another question: would it be more difficult to get into east coast medical schools if I go to a west coast undergraduate?

Assuming you do well at University of Washington, and get great MCAT scores it won’t make any difference whether you apply to east coast or other schools. University of Washington is well known and medical school applicants from there will be applying everywhere. The challenge is to find a space. Medical schools are very competitive. You may be able to find out what the medical school acceptance rate is from University of Washington applicants.

umm…where can I find the rate?

Incidentally, the acceptance rate for non Washington State residents is very low at UW Medical School, whether or not you’re a UW undergraduate college alumnus. It’s very competitive and…the UW is essentially the medical school for several western states. It has a compact with said states to train MD candidates from those states. Thus, Alaskans, Montanans and Idahoans are essentially guaranteed seats in the UW medical school.

thanx that’s very useful info!!! I got into Boston University yesterday…can anyone tell how is it compared to the other two?

…BUMP!! Some help please? I’m really in a dilemma…

If you have seen UW and still can’t decide we can’t help you much.

I am currently at the University of Maryland and I do not like it at all. The environment is just crappy. Everyone is always partying and drinking. Crime highs are very high. We just had a riot recently if you havent heard. I am planning to transfer myself. You should probably give UW a chance. Just some advice. Hope you make your decision soon.

Stop procrastinating and make a decision. You’re an adult now. Take the plunge!!!

I would go to Udub- Seattle is great and its a great school
