I'm a California resident and i've recently gotten into U of Miami (psychology), Syracuse (psychology) and UCSD (undeclared). i plan on doing pre-med w/ psychology and later proceed to med school. right now, i'm primarily concerned with my chances of getting into a reputed med school through one of these undergrads. i'm also concerned with each school's atmosphere and environment. which would be the best school for me? and which school has the strongest pre-med and/or psychology program?

any help is appreciated. thanks!

Miami would be alot of fun.

for med school this is not even a contest. overall, syracuse and u of miami, especialy in bio and med do not even compage with ucsd. they are not even close to being considered in the same league.

ucsd is clearly a far better school then u of miami and syracuse... and it places extremely well into med school, why would you consider going to one of the lower ranked schools like syracuse and miami if you got into ucsd. and on top of that, uc in state tuition will run far far far less than the other two out of state schools. i can think of no reason for you to even consider the other two schools.

Life is not all about rank, especially USNews.

UMiami and Syracuse have thier benefits, including a more traditional college experience....because of smaller size, a new social and cultural enviornment in which to explore, great colligiate sports, great skiing nearby (for Syracuse), etc...

I think you should consider what kind or school you want and then using that information choose the right college.

IB.

PS--If you do well, no matter the school, you'll get to grad school. In fact, I've had friends that went east (to lesser ranked schools) to show that they were unafraid of stretching themselves a bit. They got into the UC's, and privates on the West and East coasts.

ranking is deff not everything when choosing a college, i agree. however, it is deff something that needs to be considered or taken into account when choosing a college. two other important factors are location and tuition expense. and clearly ucsd has the other two beat in both of these areas for the poster as well. and it doesnt hurt to have a more prestigious degree when applying for grad/med school. i believe the poster should check all schools out before committing, but there is no logical reason i can think of other than if he/she really likes one of the other schools to choosing them. i would tell anyone who got accepted to any two colleges, even if the two colleges are harvard and san jose state, to visit both before making a decision. however, this does not meen that harvard is not the clear/logical choice. yet, sometimes the logical choice isnt always the correct choice for everyone.
