I am in a dilemma right now. I must send in deposits literally by friday. I am in the college of arts and sciences for both schools with more or less the same amount of finaid.

I am afraid that life at NYU would be too hectic for me. I love the city, opportunities, global influence etc.... However, I would like to stroll down on a quiet sunny day on an actual campus as opposed to constantly being surrounded by noise etc...

I have visited both Universities and like them alot. Rochester has amazing research opportunities, and various programs to help undergraduate students. However, prestige, although only a small factor, still affects my decision.

Any advice?

First, prestige is a joke that’s meaningless in real life. An individual program may be more “prestigious” but then that rarely matters at the undergrad level. When it comes to schools in general, unless you’re talking the relative prestige of Harvard versus Really Ordinary College, then it really doesn’t matter.

I have no idea how you are calculating “prestige” but I can’t see how NYU is “more prestigious” than UR. Except in two areas, Tisch and Stern, neither of which apply to you.

^ I agree with Lergnom. And I was accepted to NYU as well but chose UR over NYU because of their aid and scenic location. Coming from the city myself, I would most likely be commuting (if i had chosen NYU), and yes it does get very hectic (especially during rush hour). Moroever, after visiting Rochester’s spring open campus I was convinced this was the place for me. There are no required courses that you’d have to take, unlike NYU. Best of luck with your decision.
