U of Toronto or McGill?

Which college would give me the higher chance of being accepted as a transfer applicant to a top US school (e.g. Harvard) assuming my stats are the same for both?

I'm aware that Harvard is not currently admitting transfer applicants, but they will open up again when I start my junior year.

I don't know anything about schools in Canada, or transfer from a college in Canada to the US, but you should go to the school at which you feel you will do the best. Assuming these schools are of roughly similar caliber, I would say it probably doesn't make a huge difference which one you go to.

I can go to either school, but my ultimate goal has always been an Ivy-league school in the US. I read this thread and have never seen so many directly contrasting opinions.

Generally speaking, which one would be more recognized by Harvard in the US?

They both are. University of Toronto is actually ranked in the top universities in the world and higher than McGill.

Oh sorry, I I left out a vital piece of information. Let me rephrase this.

I want to major in Harvard's political/social science program. Considering McGill's more reputable social sciences program, but U of T's higher ranking, how would that work on the scale?

Harvard's transfer acceptance rate is ridiculously low. You have a 99% chance of being rejected, so do not pick one college over the other for the sake of a less than 1% chance of getting into Harvard.

Chances are, you won't get in. Even if you're really intelligent, talented, and spend your spare time saving whales, you most likely will not get in to Harvard. So don't pick your college with the hopes that it will help you get into Harvard.

Going to McGill over U.Toronto or vice versa doesn't make a difference. Harvard's not gonna go, "Oh, that Canadian guy went to McGill, let's take him!" It won't make much of a difference, so pick the one you like more and enjoy. I'd say McGill since it has the stronger program - that way, if you happen to get rejected, you will still be at the school with the better pol sci program.

There are tons of good schools in the U.S with strong pol sci programs - why not expand your options? I'm not sure if Harvard even has the #1 pol sci program in the U.S, although it most likely does.
