UA Earns Reaffirmation of its Accreditation

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama has earned reaffirmation of its accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, or SACSCOC.
SACSCOC made the announcement at its annual meeting Dec. 8 in Houston. The University’s accreditation will run through 2025.
“Accreditation is a rigorous process that measures an institution’s commitment to quality and integrity, as well as how well its mission, resources, programs and services meet and fulfill a common set of standards,” said UA President Stuart Bell. “I’d like to thank the many faculty, staff and students who worked so hard the past two years to demonstrate the University’s commitment to excellence in every endeavor.
“Throughout this process, we learned a lot about who we are, what we do well and where we have room to grow. Our students will continue to benefit from what we learned, and our University will continue to focus on creating an environment where every student can be successful.”
Reaffirmation is the culmination of a process designed to verify that the University adheres to standards of quality as judged by its peers. It involved a significant self-study by the University and the development of a Quality Enhancement Plan to improve student learning and the environments that support student learning.
Peer evaluators conducted an on-site visit in March to review the Quality Enhancement Plan, which was accepted without recommendations. UA was first accredited in 1897.
The University of Alabama, a student-centered research university, is experiencing significant growth in both enrollment and academic quality. This growth, which is positively impacting the campus and the state’s economy, is in keeping with UA’s vision to be the university of choice for the best and brightest students. UA, the state’s flagship university, is an academic community united in its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all Alabamians.
