UA pre med question

Hi,
My son is looking at UA to follow a pre-med track, but is interested in an undergraduate major in public health, anthropology or some other major that examines science and medicine through a humanities lens (he’d love science, tech and society, but it’s not offered at UA). Is is feasible to major in public health or anthro and complete all the med school pre-reqs in 4 years (since there is little overlap)? Is there any drawback to choosing a major that is not a natural science? Thank you! J

Public Health is a pretty good pre-med path as the major offers a “Health Professions Concentration” 12 free electives that you can use to pick up pre-med prereqs. You can see the the curriculum here (note the Health Professions Concentration):

If he picks a major that requires a minor, another option would be to do a self-designed minor under New College and cover any remaining pre-med prereqs in that minor. My D is an entering freshman and Psych major and is doing this for her minor.

Med schools don’t care what you major in. One possible drawback to a nonscience major is that you’d likely complete your Premed sciences early in college and maybe forgetting too much by the time you went to med school.

As for science, tech, and society…your Son could create that major thru New College

There is a public health BS degree.
