UAA Swimming

Hello,
I wanted to know how much pull (or like how many slots) coaches have at academically competitive UAA schools have for swimming. Especially colleges like WashU, Chicago, NYU, and Carnegie Mellon.
If anyone has gone through, or knows someone who has gone through recruiting at these schools, it would be great if you could share some experiences. I have gotten contact with some of those schools and have asked these question but did not get solid answers and so wanted to hear some personal experiences.
Thanks for your time and help!

Coaches have some influence at some of those schools but I don’t know the particulars in swimming. I’d keep talking with the coaches as the information they provide is going to be the most accurate for you. Just ask about the recruiting process and timeline. Eventually coaches usually bring up admissions support and explain how it works. If not, you can ask at some point.

From my kid’s conversations…
U Chicago and Wash U have “slots” where you know whether you are in. I think they also have soft support where the coach writes a recommendation, but you’re not guaranteed a spot.

NYU is making vague promises, and has a reputation of soft support only. We’ve been told by other swimmers and parents to be careful.

I don’t know about Carnegie Mellon.

Yes, hopefully things get clearer as the process starts moving further.

Thanks for sharing. Would this be for swimming? If it is, did U Chicago say they have 6-7 slots for both boys and girls?

@swimjj

Yes, my info is for swimming. I don’t know the number of “slots”, just that they have them.

Got it, thanks for the info.
