UB Chances?

Hello, I’m a second term junior in high school who’s extremely anxious about college acceptances. UB is my dream school and I know it’s a reach, but I want to know if I have even the slightest of chances.

I had an 86 and 88 freshman and sophomore years, respectively, but my grades have really plummeted this year. I have an 81/100 now. I have been struggling with depression/anxiety that suddenly worsened tremendously when I started junior year. My guidance counselor advised against mentioning the depression, so I don’t have a reason for the drop in grades.

I don’t have any teachers to ask for a recommendation besides my guidance counselor. I only had three clubs during my 9th and 10th years. I also volunteered on the weekends. This year, I didn’t join any clubs. I got a 1460/1600 on the SAT and will be taking it a second time soon. I have no SAT 2s, but I’m hoping to take the English SAT in the fall. I’m taking APUSH, but no other APs. I don’t know if it’ll help, but I go to a high school that’s reputable and known for its difficulty. Will it affect my chances negatively if most students score in the high 80s and low 90s? I’m in the bottom half of the school and wouldn’t be surprised if I were one of the students with the lowest averages

I know these stats are not ideal, but could I still get in or am I looking at community college? The latter is okay, but I would really much rather go to UB instead :frowning:

Your SAT scores are really good, and can compensate for grades. When you apply, explain the reason of grades being low this year. My son has not gotten accepted at UB, we are still waiting but has been accepted at SUNY Albany and has worse stats than yours.

I was accepted with a 3.3 and 1390 SAT score (sharp GPA upward trend). Similar situation to yours, was accepted. As long as you improve that GPA, you’ll be fine.

I got accepted with 1010/1600 GPA3.2

you are probably gonna be fine ! don’t worry about your SAT’ score is incredible. Good luck

@doodle0410 what major did you apply to be in?

@BriGrey24 double major in liberal arts and public health… I had a lot of internships, sports, and community service on hand.
